Lights turn on only with key turned to "on"
Lights turn on only with key turned to "on"
So I was trying to change my map light bulbs into LEDs using these instructions:
"All you need to do is pop the map light unit out, unclip that plug, cut the wires about 3" back from the plug, strip, and swap the red and black wires. Simple as that."
I did just that but in the end, my interior lights (door lights, dome, map lights) stopped working.. I tried to turn on my headlights and they didn't work either so I thought I blew some fuses or maybe the battery died. Well I turned on the car and it turned on with no problem. I tried to turn on the headlights and they worked, but the interior lights still didn't. So the headlights only work when the key is turned to "on" or the car is started, radio works, navigation works.. but interior lights don't work at all.
Anyone experience this or know what can be done to fix it?

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. Definitely sounds like you might have blown a fuse.
I had the same thing happen the other night when I was re-re-routing the wires so that I could run incandescent bulbs in the AT again (moved the LEDs to my 6MT).
I accidentally touched the power AND ground wire with the wire strippers, and it arced, blowing the fuse, and knocking out all of the interior lights.
Also, my keyless refuses to work now that the fuse is blown. Didn't check my headlights, though. I guess it's time to start pulling fuses.

Yeah my keyfob doesn't work either. Even the lock button inside doesn't work unless the key is turned to "on"
But if it is a blown fuse, wouldn't the headlights not turn on either way? They turn on with the car on but if it's off then the headlights don't work..

Well there's an auto-off feature that kills the headlights when the car's key is turned "off" after about five minutes. Something tells me, knowing Nissan's wonderful craftsmanship when it comes to circuitry, that it's probably on the same wire as the interior lights.
When the car is on, it bypasses that auto-off feature so that the headlights will stay on when you're driving. That's the best explanation I can come up with...

So when I tried to start the car to head to work.. I couldn't get the car out of park.. Couldn't put it in reverse.. Could this be related to any fuses? I didn't think blown fuses would affect driving the car..
Car is auto if it matters any

Something's amiss with your "Shift Interlock" circuit. Could be related to your electrical woes, perhaps not. I believe your brake-pedal mounted brake light switch activates the system. You can feel the plunger working if you rest your hand on the shifter and press your brakes, in park
But anyway, there's a little bitty cover down there on your shifter console, in the upper left corner, take a tiny flat head and pop it up.
Press and hold that button hiding in there, and you'll be able to shift your car. I got good at doing this while my battery was dead during my engine swap
Oh, you might want to confirm brake light operation before heading out on the highway

I really wouldn't be surprised if all of this stuff is connected through one or two blown fuses.
Now that I know the extent of damage that the blown fuse has done to Amin's car, I guess I better go start pulling fuses on my AT... (I've been driving my 6MT. Wouldn't you?
)

it's definitely a blown fuse. This happened to me while I was trying to install LEDs in my map lights---not realizing that the red and black wires had to be switched
---I kept jamming the LED bulb in there until it sparked. The interior lights wouldn't turn on and I wasn't able to get the car out of park. Check the fuse box again. I believe there are a few extra fuses in there.

My brother fixed it earlier today as he posted. 2 fuses were blown, one of them was "lockout" or something.. the other one he can't remember. But he said once he fixed the "lockout" fuse, everything was working but he replaced the other one as well
My car is running like normal and now I has LEDs in my maplights
