RX8's are slow but theyre crazy fun, my Uncle has one and went all out in it and theyre ridiculously cool

if youre willing to dip into the late 90's a S14 or Z32 would be worth looking into

Dont rotory's usually have tons of problems, and for your best interest save some more money and get a clean car with low miles on it.

early RX8's had seal problems and it usually toasted the engine so people had to get new engines dropped in, the later models had the issues fixed

dont forget Wankel rotaries in RX7 and Renesis rotaries in RX8 are 2 different apples

I suggest NOT buying a used car in NY area PERIOD or any cold weather city!!

know anyone in Florida?

I drove my 2k Max from TN to NYC and Im still crying! I may be in NYC for winters for my business and seriously looking for a used Wrangler or old Bronco, something that can handle the terrible roads.

People drive like they dont care about there cars, I assume thats why half of them look the way they do!

GOOD LUCK

All of these options seem worse than having a Maxima. Either slower or worse looking or have a higher potential for more issues.

I would say a Mustang GT/Cobra. I kind of regret not selling my max and just getting a mustang. think about how easy it would be to go fast, all it takes is bolt ons!
Also a 97-02 Camaro/Firebird would be tight for all the same reasons as the mustang. 97+ has the LS1.

If you want import, take a look at the Lexus GS300 or SC300.

It's the 98-02 that has LS1s. That would be my first recommendation, but you will have a hard time finding one that hasn't been abused.

Otherwise... If I had 7k to spend right now and wanted something like the maxima, I would find a 1995 maxima with no sunroof, cloth interior, for cheap and VQ35 swap it + boltons and and tune. May even be able to fit a S/C into that budget depending on price of the maxima.
