fuel tank capacity

i was reading this on a site and was wondering if it is accurate.

Fuel tank capacity: 18.5 gal

so a full tank right now will be $54.00 where im at (2.89 a gal of mid grade)
i never filled the car up all the way so im guessing this is why the last time i put in $30 it showed a lil above the half , i thought my fuel sensor was fawked up lol but now i see why it showed that if it is a 18.5 gal tank.
(i have the digital dash so it shows bars since i dont have a needle)

how much do you pay for a full tank and how much is the gas price and how long does it last?

it seems to me that when i fill up, driving around town it goes down pretty quickly with regular gas on a vg engine. Going out of town seems to not burn as quickly with a steady speed.

yea my max goes thru regular real fast so i only put in mid grade gas and it last longer.
my question is if it is a 18.5 gal tank we have cuz if it is i might as well buy a yukon denali if its gonna be close to $60 to fill up my max.

Yes it's an 18.5 gallon tank. However, it's highly highly unlikely that you'll ever actually put in that much gas. Even when your needle shows completely empty you usually have about 2 gallons in there. Even when my needle has shown slightly below E, I've NEVER actually put in more than 15.xx gallons. That's in 10 years of owning four different 3rd gens. I think the most I've ever put in was 15.8ish

Your question of how long the gas "lasts" isn't really answerable. Too many variables including engine condition, driving habits (and this is THE biggie), etc. The more accurate question would be miles per gallon, but most people are too lazy or too dumb to log it consistently/accurately

Having said that, I AVERAGE 26-28mpg in my blue VE 5 speed. And it is fully modded. It's all about how you drive.

agree with James 100%.
I usually get 22-23 mpg with mixed driving. I also have never put more than 15 gallons in my tank.
and it's not about fuel tank size, it's definitely about mpg. a denali gets, what 10 city, 15 highway? if it's about fill up costs, get a hybrid. sure you'll pay more up front, but you won't put but $20 at a given time...

or you could install a race cell in the trunk with a 5 gallon capacity.

i was being sarcastic bout the denali i was just comparing the fill up price lol.
so no one ever put in 18 gal?
so it shows a full tank with 15 gal?

I don't know about you but I just put gas in the stupid car when it need it. Sometimes I fill it sometimes I don't and this is over owning Maximas for a much longer time period than 10yrs. If I ever get that **** about mileage I'll just cop a Prius Gotdamnit.

Lol my comment was by no means intended as an insult or a "jab" to anybody. I was just pointing out that when most people throw around gas use or MPG figures around here (or any car forum for that matter), their comments aren't even correct/accurate because they likely don't consistently log/check their gas mileage. Very few people log/calculate their gas mileage consistently, let alone do it correctly. I just happen to be one of those people who DOES consistently log/check gas mileage

I'm not **** about mileage, but I've found when I'm in the mindset of consistently calculating it that it helps me get much better mileage. Kind of like it's always in the back of your mind. So I rarely ever sit through drive-thrus, coast a bit more, and play around with driving "techniques" in between fill-ups to find what nets the best MPG, etc.

My blue VE requires 93+ octane with my Stealin' ECU, so if I can get 26-28+ MPG consistently as opposed to the 19-23 one would normally get, I'll take it. Makes a big difference in the pocket book overall when you're paying $3+ per gallon

That would be highway mileage I assume. I use 93+ octane from Shell or Mobil I find these gives best performance in both the Max's.

It's actually only about 30% highway tops in any given tank

I rarely do a ton of highway driving. I'd imagine that all highway I could easily get 31-32 MPG, maybe even a bit more. One of these days I'll take a little road trip in it and see

I pretty much exclusively use Chevron. But Shell is always my 2nd choice. Both are top tier rated

It has been a while (several years), but the last time I recall the gas light coming on, I was really scurred and it was below the white line on the bottom. I filled it up and it was like 16 gallons. Usually when it's down around the "E" I will get about 15 gallons. I have owned two VE Maximas and never ran one out of gas before.

Also, I often fill up the Maxima and check the mpg, especially if I am going on a highway trip. I will get around 26-28 mpg mostly highway and I have reached 450 miles on a tank, but couldn't push it much more because of distance between gas stations. Before the state mandated 10 percent ethanol, I had a few trips that I got over 30 mpg. Mixed mpg is around 22 or so. Depends on how I drive. I have gotten worse than that with a lead foot.

Ive driven my car out of gas before(way below E) It seems that the gas light doesnt work anymore or I dont see it come on. I was once in a crazy situation in which I was about 60 miles from home, and the gas hand was on E, didnt have any money to put in the tank, and it was dark and cold. Some how I made it all the way home, so either I was getting good gas mileage or there was more than 2 gallons left in the car below E.

I have a log of fills to mpg in my composite book. In Washington state i was using cenex with 94+ octane getting an average of 26-28 on a mix of street and highway. All highway more like 28-30. best mileage i ever got i cheated coasting all the way down Mt Rainier lol got like 33-34mpg then again i coasted down from 6,500 feet to like 120 feet above sea level. Most total miles i got on one tank was almost 500 miles. My Maxima is a VE5 TK3 sapphire blue as well with some mods just no ecu like James.

I may try a different brand of gas, because I too also noticed that 89 seems to last a little longer that regular gas. But it also depends on the stuff you have in your car and other mechanical issues. I noticed my mpg started to drop as soon as I put speakers in my trunk, and I also have bad rear struts, and another dying fuel injector!

Octane has no affect on how many mpg you get it all has to do with keeping a well maintained engine. You will not get more mpgs just because you use a high octane gas. 87,89,91,&Etc will all burn at the same rate in our cars.

Pre-detonation occurs though..causing to throw a code for a bad knock sensor.. am I incorrect on that? Sorry to dig up an older thread. But I have no CEL but when I checked the ODB-1 connector in my 93, I had a knock sensor code because my mom put regular in it for 224k miles of the engines life.

i got 31.5 up (including interstates thru WV) when i went from Raleigh to Chicago in 2008. VG5 with stock wheels and tires. The final tank before i pulled in the driveway read 496 miles!
