Static Electricity Shock everytime I get out the car

I have a 5spd 1997 with 135k miles on it. This is my second 4th gen. Both cars, i installed grounding kit and amp and sub.

Has anyone else noticed after driving, shutting off engine, and gettin out of the car, and touch the outside door trim to close the door, you get a static shock??!

Idk what it is. But both cars did it. I have cleaned chassis grounds. Its more or a nuisance than anything else.

I never had another car do this and my car drives fine. Jus thought i pose the question.

i had this with my truck and other car as well..it is a nuisance, but i believe its more in teh winter as we are wearing things that keep us warm...ie wool...its more or less the way you get out of the car. if you slide out of the car...chances are, you will get shocked.

This happens with my cloth seat interior but not the leather seat interior. What type of seats do you have?

If this is something that occurs often, make sure you discharge the static charge before using a fuel pump. It has been shown that a static charge release could ignite the fumes thereby causing a fire.

This is true, but not everyone closes the door when they get out at a gas station. I know I don't when I use my credit card at the pump.

I had a chevy truck with sheepskin seat cover that did this every time. hold on to the door frame when exiting and youll discharge without a spark. Also touch the glass instead of the metal. you wont discharge untill the actual physical contact, with no spark.

lol @ tigershark.

I got the cloth seats. I was jus wondering if anyone else was experiencing this like me.

I was thinkin about maybe tryin to ground the door to the car frame somehow.

I will try your method too ASAND1

The door IS grounded to the body, YOUR not grounded. You build up a static charge sitting in your seat, and sliding out. The door is the first metal part you touch after exiting your car and the charge jumps from your body, to the car body. Cold, dry air makes it worse.

Didn't they do some kinda experiment like this on top gear? They put the kid in the car and then zapped the car?

And mythbusters had an episode about static electricity.

I only saw the previews for both shows, I dunno what they concluded. Worth searching for.
