engine mount question

After about a year of an annoying clunking noise from the front right of the car, i've determined that the motor mount at the pass. side fender has collapsed. so, my question is will that motor mount purchased from Nissan for $115 be the same as the one purchased from Infiniti for $260? I can't imagine there is any difference, but i cant find a part number on the mount and the two dealerships can't tell me if they are the same or not. i've looked online at aftermarket ones... and oddly, atleast at one place the part numbers were different. thanks in advance.

According to Alldata and Napa the engine and trans mounts on the sides are the same, have the same part number and price listed for both. I couldn't find a listing for the front and rear mounts on the Infiniti to compare, but I believe you're asking about the "Engine mount" as opposed to the "front mount" or "rear mount" so I would say that they're the same if you get the right thing.

Once you get it fixed, be prepared to be amazed at how much quieter your car is overall. Not just the clunking went away when I replaced mine but an odd resonance on cold starts went away too. I guess the metal on metal contact between the mount and the body of the car caused it. I thought I was looking at an engine replacement last winter because of how loud my engine sounded until it warmed up. Now even on the coldest days it is quiet all the time.

They are the same exact mounts between the I-30/I-35 and Maxima.

Was the clunking sound like a loose metallic sound whenever you hit a bump going like 30 or 40 mph? I've had this sound myself for like 2 years now. I replaced my stabilizer end links and that did nothing. All my ball joints and tie rods are still nice and tight.

Makes me wonder whether it's time for me to do mine. I got 116K miles on my ride, but the engine still idles smooth and runs vibration free at speeds up to 80-90 mph. Even if the engine runs well, could the mounts still be bum???

The only time the manual vs auto thing matters is if it is the electronically controlled mount that goes bad, which on the autos, is the front mount. The sides and rear should all be the same.

bought the mount from Partsgeek.com for $86.44 shipped.
and as far as the symptoms... the engine idled fine and reved fine. but there was a light thumping noise at first when driving through something like a rough parking lot at 10-30mph. over time it progressed into a heavy thumping noise in the same conditions or if i hit a pothole. then when it started getting cold out a metalic buzzing noise was present until the vehicle had warmed up. at the time i figured it was an exhaust noise. so with all of this going on, my right front wheel bearing started making noise, so i took everything apart up there to access the spindle and bearing. other than the bad bearing, it all seemed in good shape. got the new bearing pressed on and reassembled everything. roaring noise was gone, but no change in the clunk. so this left me a little puzzled. but a few weeks ago the car was parked on a signifcant incline and the gas light had just come on. it was a little hesitant to start and the engine sputtered when it finally did. and in doing so, i heard the same clunk/thumping noise as i did when going over bumps. ah, great! but how do i make sure this is whats wrong and which one is it. so after some brain storming i decided to take my floor jack and a piece of wood and slightly lift the motor from the oil pan. it came up probably 2-3" and i found a rubber door wedge to cram under the mount. dropped it down and went for a spin... the metalic buzzing and clunking were gone!! so i hope it continues when the new mount is installed.

new mount installed... can't believe how big of a difference it made. front end feels much more solid w/o the engine bouncing around.

Get the front end aligned, trust me on this.

So what are the most common symptoms of a bad motor mount? And it it always the pass side? I read in another thread it could be the VTC sprokets, whatever that is, since I seem to have a valve chatter when I first start it up and I can seem to hear some slight chatter noises when accelerating at highway speeds.

Bad passenger side engine mount greatly magnifies the sound. The metal on metal contact transmits a lot of extra noise. I thought my engine was getting really loose inside until I replaced the engine mount and even now when I hear the VTC rattle, it is pretty quiet.
