Strut removal problem.
Strut removal problem.
Im trying to replace the strut mounts/bearings on my '95. The two lower bolts will not come loose. Ive tried the pipe trick (ended up rounding the bolt a little, but not terribly), and eventually dug out the impact wrench. It wont budge with the impact gun at 150 psi, from either the bolt or nut side.
Anything I might be missing? Ive got it sprayed with a coating of PB Blaster at the moment, and will probably try again in an hour or so.
Thanks.

Two suggestions for you:
1) Heat. Get a torch and carefully try to heat up the pieces to help break them loose. Obviously don't start a fire!
2) When all else fails, get a dremel tool with aluminum oxide cutoff wheel, and cut into the bolts. Sometimes a small slot cut into the bolt will allow you to use a chisel to break the bolt off. But, this is obviously an extreme method. Good luck. Rich

Heat is your friend.
Use a 6 point impact socket on the NUT side, not the bolt.
On a side note, make sure both front wheels are off the ground when you try to remove the strut, otherwise you'll be fighting the sway bar.
