I need your opinion about A/T Flush

okay first of all, my max is at 201000 miles and I want to do a tranny flush. I bought my max at 185k miles and I have no idea if the previous owner ever did a tranny flush. I've read that its a bad idea doing a tranny flush if the tranny hasn't been flushed regularly. is that true? any feedback is appreciated. thank you everyone.

I think its only bad if you get the filter changed.

Someone correct me if I am wrong

I always thought that if you have not regularly changed it, then leave it alone. Something about the particles or something once you change it, might start slipping.

i would suggest looking at your trans fluid.. see how dark and burnt the fluid is. If its not that dark, just do a drain and refill with some nissan matic d.

If it wasn't done regularly (every 30K miles or so) or if you have no idea whether it has been done, then leave it alone.

If the fluid isn't pink and smooth to the touch (take some fluid and rub it between your fingers), then do a drain and fill. You can even go as far as dropping the pan, cleaning the magnet and changing the filter. If you do drop the pan, change whatever gaskets that are there as well.

i talked to a guy who is pro on cars when he did mine

he said that the filter changing thing is BS. he modded my trans so he could drain the torque converter as well and got almost all of the old stuff out and switched it to Royal Purple ATF. i had no idea when the fluid was last changed but im guessing it was years

i know some places use some kind of pressure machine to force all of the old fluid out, that i wouldnt do on a older trans.

It is bad if you change the fluid, not the filter. Replace the filter, use the same fluid if you do a flush. It is something that builds up in the old fluid, not the filter that causes it to slip after a flush. Drain and refill, add some lucas atf additive for extra protection.

So yes, it is true. If the trans hasn't been maintained, don't do a flush now.

This is what I have heard as well... If it was changed on a regular basis you will be fine.

FSM says to inspect every 15k miles. replace every 30k miles if u drive in adverse conditions.

Edit:

If its pink and nice looking then leave it alone. If not, then u may want to change it. There are lot of addtional moving parts in an AT.

Its hit or miss.
