I have a 3.5 swap in my car. I have not driven it since the swap but it has been started and warmed up several times. When I start the car I get a chirping noise from the clutch/bellhousing area. As the car gets warm, it gets less noticiable until the chirping is gone. When I push the clutch pedal in the chirping goes away (even when the engine is cold and the engine is chirping the loudest)....so this would point to the TOB? I am hoping the problem goes away once I get a few miles on the car but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. All of the clutch parts are brand new. Thanks for any input.

 

yeah i think its the TOB just hasnt gotten broke in yet

 

I never knew they needed to be broken in. I have done several clutch jobs before and I have never had this noise.

 

i have done a few clutch jobs also and never had that problem either just seems like that could be the only reason for the noise maybe the tob is deffective did you change your input shaft bearing?

 

The transmission was just rebuilt, so I assume that was done.

 

could be tob, i heard that ACT clutches have clutch chatter occasionally, if you have one of their clutches.

 

I haven't even driven the car yet so I have no clue how much this one will chatter. But what I have going on has nothing to do with clutch chatter

 

it could be a bird, or a nextel. i'd put my money on the nextel if it lasted more than 5 minutes

I will do that if it does not go away after driving it a few miles. I just got the brakes blead last night, so I should be able to put a few miles on it this weekend.

My car has the same chirping noise coming from the bellhousing area. I thought it was the ISB, but I think it's just the TOB needs replacement. I know your clutch is brand-new, but my car has been making this noise since I bought it and it hasn't gotten worst.

Maybe you got a defective TOB?

 

did you inspect the tob to make sure it didnt have a crack or defect on it?? when i replaced my clutch the tob had a crack in it, most likely from one of my stupid friends hanging around the install and dropped it on the ground. anyways, i had to replace mine because it deff sounded like something was broken.

if it goes away i wouldnt worry too much but you wont know for sure till you get that baby on the road!

 

FWIW i had a chirping sound in first when i put in my XTD stage 3 clutch. I rode it like that for the longest time and never had a problem.

 

yea its the little lever that is connected to the throw out bearing , it tends to rust, i have same problem with mine. Spray a little lube down there or grease the back of that lever . Guaranteed to go away

 

Do you mind explaining how to grease this lever? Pics would be awesome.

 

Mine had this at the friction point, and never went away with the most recent clutch installed. Did it in neutral and while in gear.

 

did u make sure to apply bearing grease on the TOB? You have to put it on the sides of contact...

 

Faulty TOB?

 

I would say best drive it a bit,would be a shame to tear it all down looking for something if it will disappear on its own.
