I have a Tranny problem :( bad tranny? Synchros?

Hey what's up guys? I tried to record a video so it would be more helpful and convenient to find the problem bit it didn't work. So I'll start by stating that my transmission was fine the day before and everything was regular and functioning perfectly.. Ive put about 35xxx miles on this clutch.. Some reason in the morning I started up my car and let up warm up and idle properly, but as I took off I heard a really loud clanking noise and I was thinking maybe something was stuck under my car but I pulled on to the intersection and drove then it got louder and it got harder to it in 1st and 2nd gear then the when o was in neutral it made a really scary grinding clanking noise kind of similar to a bad throw out bearing but when I pushed in the clutch it went away and it was grinding into 1st and 2nd but 3,4,5 and was fine.. So I made a trip back home which was 45 miles away an in the freeway everything was fine but when I stopped to put it in 1st it started grinding and clanking again.. My gears never grinder before and it didn't do it the day before the incident. What I'm thinking is maybe the throw out bearing isn't still on the tranny and it moves around? But it does it when my tranny warms up, I'm frustrated and hoping that it isn't cause my tranny is going out, please help me and I will post a vid of the problem ASAP. Thanks and God Bless!!

okay so i did some research myself and came to a conclusion that i should flush my gear fluid out and fill it with new gear fluid.. another thing i noticed is that, maybe my synchro meshs are going out because in 5th gear when im coasting, it popped out of gear by before.. any suggestions guys?

u never replaced the tranny fluid??? eiiiiiii

I had a tranny blow on my first 4th gen at 156k. I dont know if the person before me ever replaced it or how hard they drove it, but the differential seals went and i jus replaced tha tranny. 10k mi later some lady ran into me and totaled it.

On my second 4th gen, i replaced the fluid as soon as i got it at 117k. There was a problem where if i drove in reverse to park and went to neutral, the shifter stick would be in neutral but the tranny wdnt shift to neutral. When i replaced fluid, problem lessened considerably. I still watch for it, but for the most part, replacing the fluid cured it. now at 137k

Replace your fluid man. These trannies are too sensitive. I dont even really beat on imine too much either. I baby my tranny fo real. Im hoping by regular replacing fluid and babying the tranny will make it last longer.

alright, im going to change it myself.. i just drove the car around for about 20 minutes and it wasnt making the noise in the tranny through 1st and 2nd.. Everything was functioning fine and the gears were going in smooth.. so im confused but what i noticed is that my shifter is acting strange.. when the shifter is neutral it stays in the middle but when you move it right and left neutral its supposed to retract and bring it back to the middle, some reason when i bring it to the left side, it stay still in the left side and it doesnt retract back to the middle in neutral but the right side is fine.. i recorded a video so you can see what i mean..

Crunch crunch crunch, now it pops out of gear.

Don't waste your $$ on an oil change. Pull the tranny, it's toast.

thats what i was thinking also. when it was making the noise, the clutch was fully released but then once i engaged the clutch, the noise stopped but then 3,4,5 gear it wouldnt make the noise at all and in 1st and 2nd it would make the loud clanking grinding noise through the whole gear...

If your car is making any of these sounds....

(:05-:08, :14 to be exact)

Youuu might neeed a new tranny, just sayin....

Also check out the gymkhana videoes in my youtube, those noises ARE NOT axle related, even though they click and sound like bad axles.

One more for bonus pts...

Also my dyno videos, the one near the front of the car, you can hear the transmission... people would think it's the dyno making that sound... You're wrong, that's mah good ol 5mt!

That noise in 1st gear and every other gear.... NOT THE DYNO! We all know that glory in 4th gear known as the roar of a 12 year old 190k mile VQ30DE.....

I drove my car for awhile now and the sound and grinds have went away but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they don't come back ( even it probably will :x ) but do you guys think it can be anything else?

I'm having a problem similar to this... bled the clutch some months ago and barely noticed a difference. Could it be a faulty master/slave? even if its not leaking?

sorry i took so long to report back guys, i definitely found the problem though. So i flushed the tranny oil and nothing dripped out..!! (WTHECK!!) so i was in shock and confused. I bought 4 liters of gear oil and poured all 4 in and next thing you know, i go under the car to put the fill bolt back and all the fluid is leaking out of the driver side inner axle!! seal is bad and all my tranny fluid leaked out within 2-3 days, now my tranny feels like im shifting metal on metal

Damn son,, that aint good. Sounds like the differential bearing shot. Thats what happened to my first 4th gen. 1200 bucks, another tranny, and a new clutch later, i was back on the road.

If anything, I'm going to replace the seal and see what happens. If it's the tranny that's bad then it'll be time to swap in my vq35..

Haha, yea i bought mine for 2k(129,000 miles). But if u love ur Maxima u'd do it... I need to do a tranny swap anyways(from AT to MT). Probably gonna get a used one with lower miles.

Back on topic though, saylee u said that it popped out of fifth gear.Could be ur detent getting worn. Word of advice, don't drive with ur hand/arm resting on the shifter. It will eventually wear the detents out.

I'm pretty sure I've already corrected you on this once in the past - I might be thinking of someone else but I'm pretty sure it's you and all your misinformation that I'm thinking of.

A brand new 5spd trans is $1750-1850.

Saylee, without oil you definitely did some damage to the trans, but it's conceivable that the amount of miles you spent low on oil was not so high as to cause immediate failure. I'd assume there's some damage, but until you start to see symptoms of damage, noise, shifting difficulty, etc I'd keep driving it and just keep in mind that you might need to fix/replace it at some point.

These Trannies are Tanks. Their Also Cheap and Plentiful. What was the claimed Strength of the Auto 350WHP? Yes the M/T sucks in at something like 180WHP but sure why not. Im on my stock Engine and Tranny (I think original Fluid even) at 380K

It was me. The price i am listing is the price from my local nissan dealer. Courtesy has it cheaper for the price u listing. But i have to believe with shipping its gonna cost roughly the same ballpark. Im pretty sure the dealer add mark up tho
