Painted 5.5 Gen Tail Lights?

Has anyone on the board ever cracked open their 5.5 tail lights (the chrome ones) and painted them? By that I mean painting the chrome inside part, not tinting the lenses. I don't really care for the bright chrome housings, but I also think the black '00-'01 SE tail lights look kind of dated these days. What I had in mind was simply a darker color of silver, at the very least darker than my paint (Polished Titanium). Perhaps even painting just the background a dark color and leaving the trim chrome, just to give the illusion that it's darker. Has anyone done anything silver or any other color for that matter on the factory 5.5 tail lights?

IMO you'll mess them up if you "tint" them......Leave them as they are , I would say IMO again.

Emax02(remember him?) tried it numerous times. Fairly insane, went through a few sets. I want to remember someone actually was successful but couldn't find anything immediately.

I actually like the idea since this has been done on the headlight side and looks good on WV2, so I'd imagine it would look the same on the rear.

I didn't mean tinting, like I said in the OP. I think tinted lights are disgusting on just about any car. I'm talking about taking the lenses off and painting the actual chrome housing behind the lens.

Thanks for the lead. I will do some searching and see if I can't find something on him.

I got the idea in my head from this thread:

I like the way TunerMaxima3000 was able to retain a relatively factory look (by not painting certain portions) but at the same time making the lights look just a little bit darker. I'd like to do the same thing to the tail lights (and eventually the headlights as well). I'm a big fan of simple and clean, and NmexMAX knows this

^^ I like the idea of seeing the housing painted to match the car! Tinting tails topic has been beaten like a dead horse!
