It is known that i35 engine leaks oil
I was wondering how you guys fighting it
Do you simply add oil or use higher number oil?

 

well if the engine leaks oil you would want to find the leak and repair it properly, now if its burning oil you have a different problem

Well, I am loosing over 5 quarts or oil between oil change, you think it's burning or also leaking?

 

If you're losing that much oil I don't think your car would be functioning. There wouldn't be any oil left for you to change. If you were losing that much you'd definitely notice puddles/spots of it under your car after parking for awhile which would indicate a leak.

 

thats weird because since changing oil, the dipstick was at low twice already and its been only 2000 miles. I did not notice any oil on driveway as well.

 

How many miles on your vq35de. The car only holds like 4 and 3/8 qrts. So your burning about 2.5 qrts every three or so months. If you are adding oil when you cant see it on the dipstick. What is your oci? What kind of oil? Dino or synthetic and what weight. If you change oil and put in 5 quartz your over filling. Do you have smoke coming from your tail pipe. You state no puddles or visible leaks. Your rear vc could be a culprit, chech the backside of your motor. Or side closest the fire wall as your engine is tranversly mouted. Do you see oil drips that burn away and never touch ground 2nd to motor being hot.

 

Got 140k miles. Already changed both valve covers. You think may be since I deliver pizzas on the car it might burn oil much faster?

 

If you are burning that much oil, check your spark plugs. They may be well coated with a thick layer of oil.

If it aint burning that much oil, you have a really bad oil leak and you should tend to it right away.

 

These cars are well known for burning oil. Unfortunately you are stop and go while working. Which could be the problem. With that being said, you need to find out what the problem is, as was said earlier. If you are burning that much oil you could do internal damage. Until you can figure it out or pin down how much your burning just make sure you keep it topped off. Unfortunately, I think we are all trying to figure out a problem that is part of life with the older vq35de.

I agree as I said before. Fill and drive. Get it checked and let us know. I myself would love to find that answer to the life long oil burn question. I myself think once again **** poor design and blow by at piston rings or poor valve design. Lol it just sounds good

Dont know what to say bro. Didnt find any leaks and driveway clean. I wonder if take car to dealership regarding oil burning, what would be their solution?

 

Why spend money? Losing some oil for a 10 year car is not too out of the ordinary. How much oil is it really losing?

Fill & drive....or overhaul the motor for like $5000.

where did you have your valve covers replaced and cost?

 

Did it by myself. Brought from Dave B for about $40 each.

 

I took a picture under the engine. Its really oily. Anyone have idea what might be leaking?

 

^^^^im inclined to say thats tranny fluid based off the far drip color but I dont tranny fluid leaks there, not sure either...rear main seal is a rare leak but the upper oil pan also leaks there and could be the culprit(based off that you changed your vc gaskets and they arent leaking again.)

 

I've been following you and this car on the board here and you seem to have nothing but problems... May be time to think about buying a better I35 and selling this one. Doesn't seem like it has been well taken care of...
But I would take this to a well trusted shop and just have them pinpoint it. They will probably pressure wash the spot or degrease it in some way and then they will be able to find it. That is where I would start. Let someone else pinpoint it and then you can go from there about fixing it...
