2000 Nissan maxima stereo makeover - audio experts step in please!

I have a 2K maxima SE with factory bose stereo system. I have just purchased a Pioneer Avic Head unit which i would like to install into my car is this all i need to complete the install:

Double Din Dash Kit
Wiring Harness

Also if i were to replace my factory speakes and amplify them through an aftermarket amp, how can i do that? I was told that our speakers run on 2 ohms and the best direct aftermarket speakers you can have installed are infinity since they also run on 2 ohms is this correct?

Please tell me how can i replace my speakers and be able to amplify them through an aftermarket 4 channel amp.

I have done a fair amount of reading on this forum and on different forums however, i cant seem to find my answer.

Regards

NI

well when you trash the bose HU, you will need to bypass the factory amp(s). If you are really wanting a stereo make over, IIRC you will need to run new wire from behind the HU to all four corners. Thus allowing you an easier way to feed power from your new amp.

Wait on pearlmax to chime in. He is teh guru, he will know of anything simpler

speaking of redoing the sound for the 2000, can I just get an aftermarket amp and install it where the old Bose amp was?

Sorry to hijack this tread, but I am in the process of changing my factory Bose set up, I also have a 2000 max with the bose system, I have already changed my head unit to aftermarket by using the high pass adapter with Bose amp. My question now is I want to use external amps, but do to budget need to use the oem bose speakers. I understand that they are rated at 1ohm each, what would be the process to continue to use them until I can change them out all together? My second question is would I need to run new speaker wire to bypass the eq's of the speakers? Where is the frequency cross over occurring? At the amp or at each speaker? Wanted to add also, the head unit is using 5v RCA out Pioneer premier deh-p980bt Thanks again

No can do. Either change to aftermarket speakers and amps at the same time, or don't do it at all. Keep saving until you're ready to do it all at the same time. Then at that time, run all new speaker wire.

And please, shorten your signature. It's longer than your post.

I'm 97% certain that bose speakers run at 1 ohms. I believe they designed them this way for the soul purpose of making the uneducated customer go back to the dealership to get raped again with same ol crappy speakers. So don't worry about the ohms of the bose amps as they will work well in the recycle bin. Get an aftermarket amp/speaker combo that you like. Try and find a local audio shop that can audition a in car setup or two for you. Don't rush your decision there's no need for you to suffer anymore.

You are really wasting your time and money replacing each bose component one at a time. Save up some more money to get some real speakers. The crapy bose amps were designed to work with the crappy bose speakers. No matter how pretty you make the amp the speakers will still sound like crap. Your system can only sound as good as the weakest link.

crap + crap = crap
crap + good = crap
good + good = good

it will also be a waste of time running new wiring from the HU to each corner and then having to do it all over again when you decide to get an aftermarket amplifier.

Not necessarily...instead of running the wire to the HU, you can just redirect the wire to where the amp will be. Might have to extend the wire - but it's not a complete wash.

Maybe not a complete wash but an unnecessary pain in the *** when he could just wait until all parts are received.

Agree, but in this case it's a budgetary constraint, and thus he wants to do it in phases.
