I30 Fog Lights: Terrible Light Output

My stock I30 fog lights have a terrible light output. Am I the only one who notices this?

I actually find them "decent" and they seem to fill in the deadspot at the front of the bumper. I DID rewire the side cornering lamps into the fogs though.

Thanks for the reply. I don't recall ever seeing a way to aim these fog lights.

I don't want to install higher wattage bulbs in there.

High wattage bulbs will likely do some damage to the housings in the long run.

Running a HID kit might be worth looking into for something plug and play. I didn't want to rely on the fogs for light output so I went with the highest wattage bulbs I could safely use in the OEM cefiro headlights, Osram Hyper 70/65w H4 bulbs with a relay harness. Probably the best halogen option for great output with a nice cutoff vs. my other budget option, shoving a HID kit in there. Personally I think it's more worthwhile to improve the headlamp output instead.

I agree, I smoked mine. And run hid yellow in them. They are more "show" then really functional...IMO.

I retro'd some Lexus ES300 yellow projector fogs inside of my stock fogs. Along with the 3000k HIDs in them theyre extremely bright and yellow. They actually throw more light on the road than my retro'd Cefiro's, so I dont need to run them that often.

I was wondering what the heck is that square thing inside of the fog lamp? Looks like it is blocking some of the light output. I'm wondering if I should remove that square thing.

Im running 6000k in mine and they emit quite a good amount of light. Like JNCo, I rarely run my cefiros anymore...just fogs.

You're probably talking about the glare shield. Don't remove that, it'll just blind everyone even more and won't help output.

And the glare shield doesnt just unscrew. Its spot welded to the reflector.

This. I was planning on either removing em or push em down but with HIDs, they get bright enough. No need to remove em.

Thanks. They're MSR 044's or 045's or something like that. Haven't had them on the car in about 3-4 weeks. Got something new.

Sorry for the large pics. JNCoRacer's look just like this but in I30 fogs. I actually have a set of these projectors that I could let go for $100 plus shipping if anyones interested to do themselves or I can retro them in.

The projectors themselves are $100 and the labor is $100. I'll cover paint and mounting supplies and sealant, customer covers shipping both ways.

A little job like that would probably take me about a week to finish and ship back out. PM me we can talk.

Chrisman.... beautiful work. Also, very nice light output. Looks like they won't blind oncoming traffic?

Nope. I've driven my 5.5 both in front and on the opposite side of the road and they are not blinding. I love them.

how did you re-wire your fogs/head lights so that you are able to just run the fogs?
