Throttle linkage tricking us to think our VQ's are faster ?
Throttle linkage tricking us to think our VQ's are faster ?
I've read my share of reviews on the 95-99 Maxima. I always hear about how the Maxima has great throttle response and linkage. I've also heard that 95 Maxima's 0-60 times (stock) of 7.3-7.7.
Now, my Maxima doesn't feel like a mid 7, close 8 second car. I've been in those kinda cars, and the Maxima feels more peppy, like a low 7 second car.
Could the fact that we (automagics) have nice tight throttle cable linkage be fooling us into thinking we are going faster than we actually are

I need to get me one of those! Of course my dumb friends will believe it and start given my car more respect.

Any idea how Nissan made our throttle response so good ? Or are our cars really faster than the Mag's give us credit for.

No, no fooling here. You ever driven those underpowered GM cars?? I had a chevy citation with the "iron duke" 4 banger. Throttle tip in repsonse was fantastic. If you only pushed the throttle 1/5 of the way, you'd swear that the engine was bigger than it was. But once you floored it, you saw there was nothing much left after that.
On the Max, throttle tip reponse is very good, and the more you push the pedal the more the car responds. The VQ motor just plain rocks.

I can't believe how much the cold weather is helping out. That is 5spd territory.

I knew it was a good might when I found myself throwing away all the timeslips that didnt have 15.2xx on them...

Surprised the hell out of me too. My best ET of the night was 15.25, but the there was no MPH listed on the slip, so I dont count that one. The car was launching hard as hell too. On my first run, it launched so hard the CDs came flying of the dash pocket into my lap. That never happened before...

Is there a certain time of year that all the mags/pro's test drive all the cars ? How can it be fair when it all depends on the weather conditions ?
