Scratched _ Rotors _

Hello. I recently replaced both front brakes and rotors on a 2000 Max. Upon driving the car for the first time I heard a loud screech coming from the driver side wheels. Upon inspection, I noticed a slightly deep streak along the rotors (driver side only) which was caused by the brakes. I swapped the brakes and rotors and still got the same result so I assumed it is likely the calipers causing this problem. My question is could there be any other problems that would cause this? I just want to be sure because I am very short on cash and time.

FYI: My parking brake light has been on for the last 2 months . And about 2 months before that my brakes started to slip while stopping. After replacing the brakes the old pads weren't as worn out as I thought they would be. The major problem I had during the whole procedure was a stuck caliper pin (driver side) but once it was removed and lubed it moved freely. Afterwards I also noticed a clicking noise near the parking brake handle every time I pressed on the brakes.

Any info would be appreciated.

Very weird...it looks like some foreign material is stuck between the pad and the rotor. Do you seem the same exact wear pattern on both rotors and pads now since you switched the sides? Maybe the hardware is causing the issue?

On the parking brake "click" noise, I'm assuming you have an automatic, right? If so, the "click" you hear is the sound of a relay or switch which releases the shifter so you can shift out of park. It is part of the safety mechanism for brake and shifting.

The wear is only on the driver side rotor and pads because as soon as I heard the noise I switched the parts to isolate the problem. I'm assuming the other rotor probably would have the same amount of wear if I continued to drive on it.

I went to a mechanic and he said it was the rotor scraping the disc like shield that is near/behind the hub. That would make sense since the noise seems to be on and off while driving but increases every time I make a turn. The only problem with that is there isn't any wear on the inner parts of the rotor. The calipers might be the obvious thing to look at but they didn't show any leaks and retracted pretty easily.

A dust hat rubbing on the rotor doesn't scratch the pad. O.o

And the clicking noise should only occur when he's in park... If it's disengaging the shift-lock in drive... Well, why's it engaged when the car's in drive!?

Something is touching, this is a problem your going to have to look for yourself. Maybe you can check those metal tabs on the pads, maybe one is slightly longer. But honestly it should be a quick fix...

Do you mean the brake clips or the shims? It can't be the clips because there wasn't any wear on the clips, plus the scratch is clearly being made by the brake pads (in photo).

The shims on the other hand are molded to the back of the pads and should not be greased according to the manufacturer's directions.

After messing around with this thing I think the problem may be due to a combination of the parts. I'm just stumped.

Anyone ever used Wearever rotors or Wagner Thermoquiets pads?
