Alright, the car is completely stock. (Besides soundsystem and deck, but that doesn't matter).

I want to make the car go faster. I'll be honest, I'm pretty car illiterate. I've been reading through alot of these threads with a face just reading through your terminology.

Some background on the car, it's from my uncle. It was his daily driver for 14 years.

Well, I don't want to put tons of money into the car if it's going to die relatively soon.

I guess $1000? Or is that too little? And My dad and I probably. To be honest I have no idea. Ugh

Also, would Goo Gone take off the paint? I took off the badges on my trunk and theres some hard glue left on it. I have some goo gone, but I don't want the paint to break down and come off or anything.

GooGone should not take off paint.

I would just to a basic intake and exhaust. A tune up as well

Y-pipe, 2.5inch full exhaust and an intake should be under 1000 bucks. Itll add some noticeable power.

Okay cool, any idea how much that would cost? Where do I buy the parts from? And where do I go for a tune up?

$1000 ain't gonna do much, BUT u could get a cold air intake and a y-pipe back exhaust system for that kind of money.
It will give u a little extra power.

Here are some links:
Cold Air Intake:

Okay cool cool. Will I notice the difference in performance?

What kind of difference are we talking?

what makes you think your car will die soon? how many miles?
a y pipe will yield around 10 hp and a cai will be around 5

Power difference should be around 10-25 hp with a y-pipe.

Although to get the most of it you'll want to replace the entire exhaust system. The key to more power is more flow, the more cool air you get into the engine and the bigger the exhaust you have to flow it out the back, the more power you'll gain in return. The stock parts don't provide enough flow to allow the engine to preform as it should. This is because the manufacturer adds emission devices as well as sound dampening devices that hinder power. Simply removing them and replacing them with higher flowing parts such as a 2.5" exhaust system and larger intake will greatly benefit the engine.

The engine mixes fuel, air and spark to ignite an explosion within the cylinder which forces the piston inside to move which in turn cranks and forces the car forward. The better the mixture and the better it flows through the system the more efficient it will be producing power.

The intake is a filter like device that the engine can suck air into the manifold to ignite fuel. Generally the colder the air being forced the better the engine will preform. You can buy a cold air intake which moves the filter to a better position in the engine bay where it can suck cooler air from outside the car. In return the car will generate more power and in some cases better fuel economy.

The headers collect the exhaust fumes from the engine manifold and passes it though to the y-pipe. After market Headers can also give you a gain in performance.

The y-pipe is the drop down section of the exhaust connected to the headers. For example: Engine emits exhaust into the headers, from the headers it travels through the y-pipe (which is a pipe shaped like a "y" go figure) and then through the catalytic converter (which is for your emissions to convert toxic fumes). Then it travels through the mid pipe and to the muffler and out the end of the car.

There is highflow catalytic converters that increase performance as well as catback mufflers.

When all these are combined the engine preforms much better which in return gives you more power.

Another upgrade you can look into is NWP spacers These are gaskets for the intake manifold. When on the intake manifold and throttle body they reduce heat generated from engine. This makes the air going into the engine much cooler then what it normally would be and produces more power as a result. NWP says it can produce about 8 more hp but I've never tested this product myself.

hopefully some of this info is helpful to your desire to gain power. You can always PM me if you need help with anything.

how old are you if you dont mind me asking? no disrespect just curious

also what year is your car, auto or manual, and mileage?

but like many above have said Y-Pipe, Catback (exhaust), Intake, Tune-up (oil change, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, top off all fluids, flush and refill if needed, etc)

check here for more info scroll down to post #12 -> http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...hread-yet.html

8 psi for $600 if you install yourself

You'd still need better exhaust, maybe bigger injectors, not sure but i imagine all in all would be under $1500 with some custom fab work. I'm sure boosted members can tell you exactly what you need and give you a better price range.

Honestly reading that entire thread is beneficial, but post #11 and #12 were extremely helpful to me when I knew next to nothing about cars.

Also, if you get an intake, do not buy an injen.

1. 1000 dollars can do alot with this car
2. Dont buy that injen....
3. Dont buy the warpspeed exhaust...

Instead of those, do this.

Buy a Place Racing style ebay intake. Should be no more than 60 dollars.

For around 300ish you could get a custom 2.5in exhaust built for you. Go with a cherry bomb as your resonator.

Y-pipes can be found for under 200 bucks on the forums or even directly from warpspeed if I remember right.

Heres a sound clip of my custom exhaust for you. Im running stock headers and y pipe. No cat, and 2.5in piping with a cherrybomb as my resonator and an ebay muffler.

I want to see a better video of the exhaust notes. a startup vid and then some quick revs to really get an idea of how it sounds, maybe even an interior one

Here you go, this is all I had. Hope it gives you a better idea. What I didnt get on camera is the nice popping/bubbling noise the exhaust makes when decelerating after the cars been warmed up.

Also DONT buy that? Just buying an ok turbo can set you back ~500 dollars. You cant get a turbo kit for 600

complete maintenance should be your first priority to make sure the car is running in good condition.

from there on, intake, headers, high flow cat, catback, NWP spacers etc.. should give you about 10-15whp. dont expect to have a beast afterwards, you'll probably still not be happy.

Forgot about the NWP Spacers, those will show a little bump in power.

I was gonna buy those this summer but I needed to save money for college

Actually no, if you read his comments it isn't.

It screams i dont facking care so i'm asking self explanatory questions.

Our FAQ is totally descriptive.

his first post in reference to it was: it's confusing, help me figure out how to **** in a toilet.

The guy said he was confused by threads he read through, so logically he made a post asking for help... He asked a very general question which to a new guy (no offense) can be tricky to search for given he doesnt know much about cars.

Back on topic now....

OP, if you don't understand the absolute basics you shouldn't be modifying the car at all.

Everybody has to start somewhere. The basics are the only place to start. Granted I think he could have googled/read a little before posting. At least he has a desire and a willingness to learn. I admire that.

Take care of maintenance stuff like spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, oil change every 3k miles, make sure CEL is not on. Remove the back seats and spare tire. Lower your car and add some traction tires with lightweight wheels. Relocate battery to trunk. Carbon Fiber Hood and trunk. Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator with a oil cooler + add some DEI Radiator relief and water. Lastly, I would add a CAI, Full exhaust system and 00v1 or mevi.

Im all for helping somebody out...but spoon feeding is quite another story.

This thread is a FAIL and the OP should read the stickies then ask an intelligent informed question, if after reading, he has any.

I mean cmon, the stickies are there so we DONT have to tolerate Noobie threads like this.

Had a Stillen intake with Greddy exhaust and the throttle was more responsive. But not sure if increased in horsepower.
