Frequently Asked Questions
Q1) Will this melt my housing?
A1) Honestly can't answer that. Under normal operations, you should not have a problem.

But it is a much brighter bulb, so if you do leave your reverse lights on for extended periods of time (let's say to the tune of 30 minutes), you might cook something.

Q2) Do I need a relay harness?
A2) Nope. We've tested these on a few different vehicles, and none of them required a separate wiring harness for the reverse lights.

Q3) Can I use a 35w or 50w ballast?
A3) We have tested a 35w ballast with these bulbs and they fired up just fine. No long term testing was performed though.

A 35w HID ballast will not work if you decide to use it as a reverse light though.

Q4) Can I use this as a Daytime Running Light (DRL)?
A4) As long as it's not a high beam bulb that doubles as a DRL light. For instance...
High beams on a 2011 Honda Pilot are the DRL lights. This will NOT work.
DRL lights on a Hummer H2 or Chevrolet Camaro, then yes they will work.

Q5) Will these work as driving lights?
A5) Wouldn't see why not, but I the 15w ballasts are probably not going to be any brighter than the stock headlights. Which brings us back to Q3 when running 35w HID ballasts.

Q6) Will this affect my factory wiring?
A6) It should not. If anything happens, the fuse on the harness should blow out first.

Q7) Are these waterproof?
A7) Yes, but I would still suggest using dielectric grease on all connections.

lmao...the mod for when all other mods have been completed! there is officially no part of the maxima that cant be modified!

 

Ive thought about rigging up some hids in my reverse lights and running them to a switch. And blinding these rednecks in their big *** lifted trucks with purple HID's running high beam all the time.

 

how long does it take to get full brigtness? Aftermarket headlight HID takes a good 5-10 seconds to get full brights with 35W ballast.

 

Can we use that as a tag line? "For when you've run out of stupid stuff to do; HID Reverse lights!"

About 10-seconds. Even when they're not warmed up yet, they're still brighter than just about any LED bulb I've come across.

i want to get a pair of cheap $15-20 find-at-walmart fogs, mount em on my rear deck aimed towards the driver behind me, so when these nj/ny drivers want to make that poor decision of tailgating me, etc, they shall be greeted with 55-65w of light...in the eyes! but the accidents that may happen afterward is still a thought on my mind im trying to get out so i can do this guilt free lmao

They have to prove guilt first. The trick is, blind'em long enough where they won't have time to write down the plate, but not so long they it's obvious you're messing with the natives

i doubt they would have time to adjust their eyes to read my plate for a few! lol. no i mean my guilt feeling by intentionally blinding someone risking them to crash. but then again, they sit on my ***, they deserve it.

How come a 35w ballast won't work as reverse ballast? I know you said you tested them and fired up fine, but then again you said it won't work.

 

i think it is probably due to the heat that running the bulbs at 35 watts will cause. Most reverse light areas in taillights are rather small, allowing for heat to build up easily and not dissipate. Also many 35watt aftermarket ballasts take a while to warm up. Up to a minute or more in some cases, which would make their use as a reverse light a waste of time(would have to wait a while to be able to see anything.

 

I wanted to retrofit OEM ballast which warms up at a blink of an eye. I mean, it's not like I drive in reverse.

 

Question: Im still wanting to do this but where would I mount the ballasts? On the 4th gen the reverse lights are on the trunk lid

 

I like it! On a serious note, do you have HID for the fogs? h3 bulbs and ballast?

 

id extend the harness for the bulbs and run them behind the carpeted paneling by the jack maybe around the antenna

 

but then you would have visible wires running from the tails to that area

 

Down for a set when they come in, these new 5% tints are killing me, haven't had them on again since 09', my eyes are getting old.

I've had one for a while, but did it for a specific reason. It's still totally unnecessary, but sick non the less.

The reverse wiring can't put out enough wire to fire a 35w ballasts. I've seen guys try to run a 35w ballasts like this before and the HID's just blink.
