Test drove a Silvia

I was driving around in my Maxima when I bumped into my friend who has a 240SX converted to a Silvia (sr20det engine, tranny and S15 front end conversion) To my surprise he said take it for a spin.
I jumped in not knowing what to expect. But when I took off in 1st gear and planted the gas pedal it just sucked me into the seat. Reminded me of the days when I use to drive my friends Supra TT. As 1st gear redlined, I shifted in to 2nd gear which was accompanied by a PSSSSHHH ( BLitz SSBV ) down goes the pedal and Vroommmm shift to 3rd PSSSHHH. What a RUSH!!!
All in all I am very impressed at the power of the SR20DET. A BIG thumbs up.

You need to get rid of that NOS and s/c your Maxi and then you will feel that rush throughout the gears everyday.

i cant wait till next year, im selling my max to my dad (cant let this sucker leave the family ) and getting a 98 240sx

and hopefully in the future going with the sr20det conversion...or maybe a turbo for the KA, i dont think the state would like the sr20det because of its emmissions...

Funny you say that. I recently got a '95 240SX 5-spd..hopefully I'll get enough cash to do a Silvia conversion, but that's a long ways away..(maybe once I'm in out of Uni)

if i don't run 13's all motor on the maxima anytime soon i might think about trading for an old 240sx and dropping in an SR20DET motor/tranny and still have enough cash to fix it up nicely.

My GF has a 95 240SX 5spd, and its a fun car to drive especially because of the RWD. She wants to mod it , I guess she's tired of me beating her in the max.

Yea the Maxi's are quite a bit faster, especially the 5spd's.

Turbo's just rule period. I actually like the lag of waiting till 3k+ rpms then the thrust I think thats cool. My friend jsut ordered an sr20det from japan for his ugly but sentra but oh well it will be fast.

But the 240SX is more fun to drive. I'd rather get to the next stoplight after you, but I'd be having more fun! The steering, suspesion, everything feels just so different. It feels more integrated. Now I know what people mean when they say there's something special about a sports car. Its speed doesn't matter, its the way it drives.

I really dont know why people waste the money to do a SR20 conversion. I mean dont get me wrong, I love the SR20 but...The KA24 has more torque and reaches its peak torque and HP range quicker than the SR20. And you dont waste money swapping, with that money you could throw a turbo on the KA and be boosting waay higher than the SR20 with more torque. I cant wait to get a 240

KA24DE can't handle as much boost as a SR20DE. It has thinner sidewalls plus its not real smooth. The SR20DE is a smooth engine, the KA must be the roughest engine that Nissan has ever produced.

Hmmm...Good to know. I am still learing about the whole 240sx thing. Plus another thing is the SR20 is definately lighter. How much do the swaps usually cost?

From what I have researched it costs around $4000USD excluding installation.

You can check out www.pdm-racing.com & www.zilvia.net & www.240sx.org

My friend told me he paid $2,000 for his engine/tranny. But it helps that he works for a performance shop.

Yeah, the Maxes are way faster then stock 240s. But the 240 is one of the best handling car I've driven. Even with the stock wheel you can take a turn at full speed and the tires won't even squeal. I love the handling on that car.
I went to the SE-R meet today. (I was the only Max) and one of the guys there had done the Sr20 swap. He was running 13.9 in a 200SX SE-R and the motor had cost him $2000. You just have to turn the motor when installing it.
