New front struts, now steering wheel is off center

Got new front struts (reused the springs) and when I picked my car up the steering wheel is about 5-10 degrees right of center when driving straight.

Do I just need an alignment or was something put together wrong to cause the wheel to be so far off?

The shop the did the strut work, does not do alignments so I need to go someplace else.

Thanks for your help!!

You should always have an alignment done after replacing the struts.

+1

its typical practice to have an alignment done when any suspension work has been done. even unbolting them can affect alignment...

Thanks...I took it to the shop and had it aligned (74.99). They told me that the bearing plates are binding with the springs and then releasing at once. I have heard an occasional twang (metal twisting sound) when driving from strut shop to alignment shop.

I'm not too familiar with all of the parts but should the bearing plates have been replaced at the same time?

On the front, i'm pretty sure they just replaced the struts and reused everthing else (springs etc). On the back, I used the quick struts.

Thanks for any help!

I had a nearly identical problem with mine, but I replaced the entire assembly rather than just the strut. I would say your bearing plate is done for and needs to be replaced.

Anything else I should have them replace when they pull it apart? I am kicking my self for not using the quick struts on the front like I did on the back.

I took my own parts to the shop but I bought what they told me I needed. Think it is out of line to ask for them to not charge for the labor to replace the bearing plates??

Either way, I just wasted $75 on an alignment that will need re-done.
