anybody wit a 2k 5speed do u hear what i hear?

Wassp guys,
O.K. here is da situation....when im in 1st gear at a stop and letting go da clutch i hear dis humming noise(kinda sounds like when ur brake pads are worn down). I took da car to da dealer but they can't hear anything. Its driving me crazy I dont hear it everytime. Just every now and then but da noise is kinda loud...My car only has 9000 miles on it so its not like da clutch is worn out...Im wondering if anybody has heard dis annoying noise in their car what i hear in mine???????

I have a 2k 5-speed SE with 31,500 miles. I have also noticed my clutch making a noise when I start from a stop in first gear. I would describe it as a groaning noise, not a humming noise, but that may just be individual opinion of what sounds like a hum vs. a groan. It sounds to me kind of like the clutch is straining when it engages, but I don't really know anything about clutch plates or what would really cause that noise. It seems to happen most when it's wet outside, and sometimes when it's cold. Usually when it's warmer and/or dry outside, it doesn't seem to make the noise. The service dept. at my local dealership wasn't any help.

It's a pretty quiet noise, and it only happens when starting from a stop. Since my clutch isn't slipping and I'm not having any problems with it (other than the noise), I guess I'm not too worried for now.

I have the same "problem". The 4th gen guys supposedly have the same issue (I read about it over there). From what I can gather, it seems to be a non-issue. Some of the members here have gone as far as getting new clutches. I saw someone post that they determined the problem is in the throw out bearing. I am suspect of this. The only thing I can tell you is that you are certainly not alone. My 2k SE has about 30k miles on it, and it started exhibiting the clutch "groan" at about 21,000 miles. It has driven prefectly fine. I only get the noise in first gear and, like you said, it is intermittent. Do a search on "clutch groan" and you'll see the previous discussions that I alluded to.

There's a post on this in 4th gen forum. I started having this a month ago. The more clutch slippage you let, the louder noise is. It is likely to appear when starting uphill, or with a bit higher RPMs. I took my car to the dealer, and drove with technician he said its not a big deal at all. Some ppl in that 4th gen forum said it has smthg to do with bearing or the plate.

The way I see it, I have plenty of time...the clutch is covered til 60K miles, and my car has under 22K...if it will go south, then I'll have them replace it. There's no way it makes sense to pay out of your pocket to fix it, or put in aftermarket parts (it'll void the wtty).

I had the same noise until I figure out that it only happened when I slipped the clutch too much. Get off the clutch quicker and (a) no more groan and (b) longer clutch life.

Good Luck
