shifter ****

How do the shifter ***** come off of the 97SE manual shifter handles? Is it screwed on, or press fit, or set screw? I want to know if I can adapt the big beefy black leather shifter from my old Mustang on it. It feels great. Peace: e3 - spamman

Re: shifter ****

You twist them off counter-clockwise. However, there is some epoxy on the threads so it takes a good deal of muscle. Most use a vise wrench with some cloth protecting the leather cover.

Sweeet. Thanks. I may try the old Hooptie shifter tomorrow. I do not like the skinny little Max handle. I have fat hands too. e3

Use the strap wrench. Its not possible to do it with just muscle. My cousin and I both tried together and couldn't get it off. Nissan poured some sort of cement glue in there before putting the shifter in. When using the wrench, you'll hear a loud pop (don't worry, you didn't break anything) then you'll be able to unscrew it by hand. I f*cked up the leather on the stock shifter when getting it off. Oh well.
