Do you think my springs and strut bar might have saved me?
Do you think my springs and strut bar might have saved me?
I was coming home with a few friends from westheimer last night, and was on the Loop 610 Turnoof onto 45 North. Right there there's an are where one two-lane road and another two-lane road merge into a four-lane feeder with a big no passing zone between them. Anyway I was merging onto the feeder and would've been into the second lane from the left, when one of my friends in the back just goes "Oh Sh17!!!!"
I look to my left and theres a buick regal doing maybe 90 passing straight through the no pass zone, headed right for me. I'm doing about 75 at this point, so it would've been a pretty bad accident. So I swerve to the left and fishtail a little bit, countersteer to the right, the car gets thrown into a 270. At the end of the spin I countersteered again, and was able to get back in control of the car, and safely drove it off the road into the grass alongside. I got some damage to the skid plates when i went down the curb to get back on the road, but other than that, the car is fine - although I am going to get an alignment just in case.
I've got Eibach lowering strings and a FSTB - You think those helped me maintain control and avoid dying?
Last nite was a bad nite.

Forgot to say: A real helpful guy pulled over to make sure i was okay. His family was coming home from the trip, and his wife had a camcorder in her lap and ws watching the vacation videos on it - when I swerved, she was able to get it all on video - including the guy's license plate!!! Do you guys think i have any legal recourse here?

As for your performance package helping, heck yes! I recently had an near miss where I am convinced the suspension upgrades made a big difference. I was on a levee road at night when a huge bird - a Canadian goose, I think - flew right in front of me, between my car and the one in front of me, at headlight level. That bird would have fed 12 for thanksgiving, but I was doing about 80, which would have made hamburger out of it ... There was nobody coming the other way; I twitched left/right real quick as I tapped my brakes. The bird was so close I lost sight of it in front of the right headlight, but I missed the sucker! I'm running coilovers with Konis, so my steering is very tight and responsive. I'd have hated to try that move with stock suspension. I'm sure the bird was happy too!

Get a copy of the video tape. Maneuvers like that can really stress out the suspension and you never know what kind of problems may crop up. Still don't know how anyone can just so happen catch all of what happened though... maybe just the swerve and recovery. You probably can bill an alignment and safety check on the perps.
