Has anyone ever run a 275 tire on a 4th gen?

Has anyone ever run a 275 tire on a 4th gen?

I'm still trying to figure out offsets and what would work on my car, but before I get ahead of myself I should ask about tire fitment.

I'm going to be running in the DSP class in SCCA Solo auto-x next year, and need to fattest tire available to be competitive. I'm going to run the Hoosier A6 on a 17" wheel, and the two sizes that are available (and useful) are 245/40/17 and 275/40/17. I would either get 17x8" or 17x9" wheels to put them on.

I already had my rear fenders rolled, and am not sure if rolling the front fenders is an option, and if it is, how necessary it would be to run a 275/40/17 tire.

I will be on coilovers with about a 1" drop all around, and since these will be track-only tires I won't ever turn full lock with them. The most I anticipate turning the wheel would be 1 full turn in either direction, so I would have 1/2 turn of unused lock on either side (3 turns to lock rack).

So it basically boils down to this: can I run a 17x9" wheel all around with 275/40/17 tires? I'm going to be getting Enkei RPF1s, which have offsets as low as +22 available, which is what I assume I would need to clear such a wide tire, although I'm probably still not understanding offsets properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been running 275's (275/30 to be exactly) for more than 2 years now haven't had any troubles.

cool story OP

there was a 4th gen i seen with 17x9 or 10 all around with 275-40-17 tires had a lil poke up front but it looked ok.

offset 22 is a lil bit aggressive and would push the wheel out nearly flush with fender imo

over here in Cali people are wheel ****** haha ive seen a few sets of rpf1's for sale if i come across a set in 17x9 w/ 22 offset ill ask em if i can test fit them and snap a pic of clearance

What size/offset wheel are they on? Aside from them being a 40 profile tire, the Hoosiers also run at least 1" wider than normal street tires, so I'm pretty weary about them fitting in the 275 size.

From talking to people at Hoosier and other racing folks, it sounds like the idea size is going to be a 17x8.5 with something around a +30 offset. However, that might not clear my Wilwood BBK, so I might have to drop down to the +22. It sounds like the 245 Hoosier should be more than enough tire for what I need, so chances are I'm going to go with that. I just need to figure out what offset will clear the BBK now.....

i think a 30 will clear. my friend has a wilwood bbk with 18x8 or 18x8.5 +38 or +43 or something around that but it clears barely and when we test fit my 18x9.5 +35 wheel it would not clear the bbk unless we ran like a 8-10mm spacer and i believe my wheel design was the cause of it not clearing

I've run 17x9 +34s with 275/40 victoracers and 17x10 +35 275/40 hankook Z214s
17x9s with victos

17x10s I road tested this setup but never tracked it.

Since you are looking at RPF1s this is a 17x8.5 +40 front with a 255/40, 17x9.5 +38 rear 275/40 street tires, perfect fit.

the +40 has lots of room for big calipers

My car was on AGXs and Stechs, no camber plates. Rears were rolled and I never had an issue with the fronts.

Awesome, perfect!

So I was mistaken about the available offsets for the 17x8.5" RPF1. Apparently there's only a +30 and a +40. To be on the safe side, wouldn't the +30 have more clearance for calipers than the +40, or do I have it backwards?

The last question would now be whether I go with regular silver or the nice polished finish on the RPF1.....

Now, if they could just come out with one that is quiet, doesn't vibrate, and doesn't look like a HEAVY duty tire...

So with the tire sticking out past the fender, did you ever have the fender rub against the tire tread and damage it?
