replacement tires

I'm looking to put 2-4 tires on my current 7th gen. I always go with the OEM 19" goodyears, but i havent had great luck with them. Anyone use a different brand and have good results? The price is high at $260 a tire if I don't NEED to go with those. My front right is falling apart so I want to do at least the front two. They are running a buy 3 get one promo at the dealer, so I'm tempted to get 4 and be done with it. I've replaced a couple tires early on twice due to bad winters.

I notice the continental extreme contacts are 214 each on town fair for example.

+1 That is the brand I'm going with as soon as my 19's wear out.

Maybe ill do that, the goodyears have been issues with leaks and flats the entire time I've owned the car. sidewalls damaged etc. At the tire shop way too much for the amount of miles I actually drive.

while my goodyears lasted me close to 80k miles, they had their share of foreign objects stuck in them. two memorable problems were 3 nails in one tire at the same time. A screw that went it slightly outside of the area that the shop would fix.
4 years ago I bought a plug kit and have been plugging tires ever since. Glad to say that I have no had issues with using plugs. When I was getting new tires, I specifically asked to see my old plugged tires. It was funny to see all the left over "warms" aka plugs sticking out on the inside.

of course 19" tire/rim will generally be more susceptible to road damage especially on bad roads, so no tire will save you there.

Is there a way to tell on the tire itself what year each tire is?
