Question doors locking on their own

I have noticed on my 2011 Maxima, that the doors will lock after some time, not sure if it would happen all the time or not, cause i lock the door. I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else, i'm not ever sure it bothers me. At least if i unlocked the door by accident, it would lock by itself, maybe. I couldn't find anything online

It's in your owners manual, you can disable it.

I believe OP is refering to a feature - where once you unlock the doors via your fob. If you do not actually open them within X amount of time, they lock back automatically.

Ya mine does that too when you first start to drive. I looked at the manual and it says to press and hold the lock button for 5 sec but I haven't been able to disable it.

I've never heard or read about this feature until now. I'm going to see if my Max will do this.

I experienced this inadvertantly last night. I had just replaced the batteries in both my fobs (because every time I started the car with either fob in recent weeks, the picture of the key showing a low battery was displayed on the dash), and I wanted to confirm the new batteries were working.

I stepped to the door between the kitchen and the garage and pressed 'lock' on the fob, and I heard the doors lock and saw the lights blink. Then I pressed 'unlock' on the fob and heard the doors unlock and saw the inside courtesy lights come on for several seconds.

I did this with both fobs. The last thing I pressed was 'unlock', and I heard the doors unlock and saw the interior courtesy lights come on. I always leave the car unlocked in our garage, because the garage doors stay locked and we have several security sensors in the garage.

But next morning, when I tried to enter the car, the doors were locked. Because of exactly the same situation the OP mentioned.

Yes the same behavior is observed on my G37 and when I had my 370Z. I actually love it as I find myself at times trying to remember if I locked my doors or not.. It's just great getting old... :-(

I really like the feature on occasion every single key on the fob has been pressed while in my pocket and me sitting or moving around. Set off the panic button, open the trunk as I'm sitting down getting in the car lol.

u have to have the car in the ON position only hold the lock button and the flashers will flash.....also u can disable the unlock feature when you put the car in park...same thing put the car in the ON position only and hold the unlock and the blinkers will flash indicating the change. I left the unlock feature on just incase i hit the locks while driving it will unlock when i put it in park...but disabled the lock the doors when reaching 15 mph....

but the OP yes like 15 sec of inactivity and the doors will relock...but i think it only occurs when you unlock the doors via keyfob only and not when you shut the car off and walk away

So wait, you're saying we have a feature we can turn on that will unlock the doors when you're in Drive and you shift to Park? I know about the 15mph auto lock and the unlock when you push to turn off the engine but not about shifting back to park. Please explain.

I think there should be a feature where the car will automatically lock itself after you shut the car off and walk away for 30 seconds (given the fob is not in the car).

Anyone been able to confirm this? Always wondered if I didn't lock the doors of my car and walked away if they would automatically lock after X amount of time.

its wierd because one day i left my keys in the cup holder the car did NOT lock by itself (normally the car shouldn't right?).

but one night i needed to charge my keys so i left my keys in the charging ingition thing once i come back from running inside the house the doors locked by themselves and would not unlock.

does the car not lock itself if the key is sitting in the car but if the key is in the ignition it DOES lock?

"charging ingition thing"??????????????????????????????

The batteries in the fob are not rechargeable, you just replace them when they get low.

Only if you locked the car first. If you get out the car without locking it, it won't lock on it's own. If you get out the car, lock it, then unlock it, if you don't open the door within a minute I believe, then it will lock again on it's own.

that slot just reads the key if there's a communication problem or if it's dead. pretty sure there's no charging.

LOL. I never believe the sales people on anything they tell me about the car cuz they're often wrong. Before shopping for a car, I like to do my own research. Seems like their main objective is to sell the car, knowledge about the car itself is 2nd or 3rd.
