The bleeding continues..

Ok, so may car wouldn't start at all this morning ( usually takes me about 3-4 tries). I come home from work and figured I try it again. She starts up first try no problem. As I am pulling off I hear this familar whining sound coming from my engine bay. I made it all the way back to my sisters house. I sat and talked to her for a few minutes. Came back outside to a noticeable dimness in my head and interior headlights, again nothing shot off into my head that there was an issue. I proceeded to drive and nearly crashed head on to an on coming car now, I am terrified. I raced home and parked the car and check the normal. No battery/break light, cells or anything out of the norm. I grabbed my multimeter and ran a battery/alt test it read 14v at idle and then dropped lower. I didn't mention that I just replaced my alternator about two weeks ago. What or where should I begin?

What brand alternator did you replace your old one with?

I have a similar problem as you, Sometimes the car clicks a couple times before it starts and randomly flashes the battery/break light at me. I've taken it to the shop to check if my alt is going bad. they said nope that was fine. So what i did was check the cable for the + and - and it was pretty corroded. I've replace them with new set and even to this day it randomly flashes those lights. I've never pay it any mind as long as it doesn't stay on. It has something to do with a bad/weak connection which i'm not sure where at but it never gave me major problem. Next time if you're unable to start the car try wiggling the + wire to see if it's lose or whatever, i've had this happen to my couples times and brought a new battery for no reason

00 i30 also.

My wifes 4th gen started to exhibit the same symptom as the OP,random no starts etc.. but before I was ready to start changing alternators and such I thought to start with the small things first.Clean the contacts,battery posts and such and the problem went away.

Would the corrosion on the contacts cause flickering interior lights and dim head lights? As stated before I am not getting the dreadful brake/battery light just the flickering lights.

sounds more like your junkyard alty may be on its way out.Id take it to a local parts store to see if their equipment could pinpoint it.

To add I am concerned about the car not starting like it should. I am thinking about getting a new starter also but I want to make sure it's the issue.

ACDELCO Part # 3342041A {#88864442}
GENERATOR, WITH NEW REGULATOR; HITACHI IF; 110 AMPS

I've never have problem with aftermarket parts, it'll run it's life span and die but you'll never know when that happens. If you've already check the connection and it's tight and clean than the next thing to do is bring it to the shop and ask them to check if the alt is charging correctly.
