Painting Nissan Emblem suggestions

I need suggestions for painting my emblem. I'm painting my emblem black and the Nissan lettering red. Should I paint it black first then tape over the new paint, use an exacto knife, then cut a pattern for the lettering or the other way around? I don't want to f****k up . Oh and thanks in advance whoever posted "how to paint your grill" on the my7thgen.org site.

depends how intricate you want i suppose. if it were me, I would paint the letters red first, since you don't need to be careful and black will cover red well. then take some tape and mask off the letters, before making to much effort, take a roller and press on the tape. Hopefully you will see a relief of the letters. Then cut around that relief and remove the excess tape. then you can paint it black and peel the tape off when you are done.

Yeah I would paint the letters first. (the rectangle area)Than plasti dip the whole emblem and trace the Nissan logo with an x-acto and peel the letters off. This how I would do at least.

Ok thanks guys. I'm not plasti-dipping my grill. I thought of doing it since I plasti-dipped the chrome strips but I want something black with a nice shine to it. Once I remove the plasti-dip that is currently on, I'm going to sand the grill with 400 grit sandpaper to remove the coating on the chrome, spray it with black primer (5 coats), then spray it with glossy black paint (6 light coats). I hope to do it this weekend depending on how many homeworks by professors give me
