Why must Civic owners feel the need to race this car?

I've had 3 run-ins this past week with Civics, mostly late 90's early 2000's. Twice with my wife and kids in the car and this morning at 5:30 on my way to work .

I haven't even once stepped on the gas to mess with them, I make them feel like they're something special by taking off.

Anybody else have this issue?

I had a Civic and, of all vehicles, a Volvo S60. I guess Granny wanted to go!

Where I live is CIVIC capital and EVERYONE wants to race me because they hear my 3" exhaust. Most of the time I dont even waste my gas. My friend just got an LS-VTEC in this old 1991 Integra with cams, skunk manifold, cam gears, stage 3 clutch, computer chip, 9k rev limit, CAI, shocker stickers on the windows (you know how Civic dudes are). Tried me on the freeway from a 20mph roll in second gear. By the time I shifted to 3rd gear he was at least 5-8 cars behind me so I stopped accelerating. Waste of gas.

Funny, we have a Civic and never would consider trying a max. Of course, it's a base LX with the lawnmower engine, but still.

I deal with that all the time down here in PA. Lots of F-150 Trucks down here that have stuff done to them and trucks in general.

Yea I stopped racing people at stop light cuz I swear my gas needle falls a little everytime I do. Got to expensive lol.
If there were at least 2 lights ahead I'd race them at the 1st(embarrass them) then at the next when the light turn green I'd just sit there as they floor it in an attempt to beat me lol. I always got a kick outta that

You how the civics go but I had a run in with the new Acura TLs and it was side by side about the whole time...it was pretty impressive.

I literally laughed out load at this one. I work in Allentown (Lehigh Valley) and you couldn't be more right about this being the CIVIC capital. I have a stock SV and they challenge me all the time and being a competitive person I have no choice but to slap them down. I used to have a worked '93 RX7 and they used to challenge me in that as well. Oh well its fun I guess!

I used to have the thing with the Civics alot when I lived in NC and the F & F came out back when the 255HP 03 Max was roasting most Stangs (unless they were heavily modded).

Now here in Tejas (Texas) it's mostly trucks (especially juiced up Silverados). I had a really good run vs one a month or so ago, I can tell he had something did to his, he met me at a light and took off and I had a trunk full of groceries, the wifey and he was solo. The race was pretty tight up until about 100 and then I started walking him but it was tight.

I don't even bother with Civics though but it's mostly trucks here, BMWs, Lexus they all seem a little intimidated I guess it's cause the way my car looks (it looks like it's fast).

Trucks can be made fast. People have been hopping up trucks for decades.

There are tons of Civic's down here. They go to their usual meet up spots on weekends and go trolling the highways in packs ranging from 5 to 20 or more, doing highway pulls against themselves or whoever else they can find willing to stoop to their childish levels.

The reason why they want to race whatever they can is because they are mostly young punks with nothing else in their lives better to do.

Any vehicle when modified properly can be wickedly fast. Unfortunately there are a few that do go a long way to ruin it for the rest.

One of the guys that I do track time with has a pair of civic SI's that are very quick on the race track (road course) with minimal work. Great balance, good power up top and carries momentum well, more importantly they have been exceptionally reliable with multiple track days.

But his gem is his F150 w/ 5.4L and 9lbs of Supercharger....runs low 11's....crazy fast and pulls both his civics to the track...

Once with a newer civic si and once with an Infiniti g37. The civic didn't stand a chance. I can't say the same about the g37. all at the track of course.

Don't let this deviate from a why to a road racing thread. Don't declare you've "raced" anyone on the highways.

In my area it used to be Civics, Eclipses, Celicas, etc. Now everyone has stepped up to STi's, Evo's, GTI's, etc.

Now as far as d-bag drivers who always want to keep the skinny pedal to the floor, it's gotta be VW or Subarus. Too many times I've had a modded Jetta or GTI try to play while on the highway. Even had a modded 350Z that wanted to run me lol. Everyone thinks I'm a punk for not wanting to street race. Just not my thing. I enjoy having cheap insurance and my license too much to throw it away to prove my car is quicker. Besides, I've had 3 reckless tickets in years past for doing stupid sh*t on the road... don't feel like paying $245/mo again for insurance

Wanna run me? Let's go to the track and see what's what

I haven't had any problems in my Maxima but I used to own an 08 civic si sedan. Car was fantastic. Although everyone with a V8 or truck wanted to race you.

A train? To me those "mufflers" are more reminiscent of a restroom when someone in there had taco bell for dinner.
