Is it a problem putting the front bumper cover? Knowing all them bolts are rusty. Or is it just better getting the whole bumper from the junkyard. Thanks

The problem is it's very unclear what exactly you're asking.

Are you asking if it's hard to get the bumper cover OFF due to rusty bolts?

If so, if it's hard to get the bumper cover OFF due to rusty bolts - how does getting a different bumper from the junkyard help you? You'd still have to pull off your stock bumper to put the new one on.

Anyway, for the front, you'll need to pull the headlights and grille and unscrew all those bolts along the top. Pull the fender liners out and unscrew the 10mm nuts that hold the bumper to the fender. You'll also need to remove the license plate holder and IIRC that little separate air fin that fits under the bumper cover.

In my experience, the bolts that go along the top of the bumper (under the grille and headlights) can get quite rusty - even in Texas. I've had several just snap right in half when unscrewing them. If you're in a rusty area it has the potential to be worse. Also in my experience, the rear bumper screws are rustier than the front, I guess due to drainage/water issues.

 

Thanks James. I would go with a whole bumper then dealing with replacing just the cover. Replacing all them bolts etc etc. Now to find a decent bumper.

 

But you'll still have to do that if your stock bolts are rusty. The new bumper vs used bumper is somewhat moot because you'll still need to get yours off and the new bumper cover on.

Aftermarket bumpers can be had pretty cheap. Cheap enough it's almost not worth the hassle of getting one at the junkyard unless you get an absolute steal of a deal.

Front and rear bumper covers can be had right now on Rock Auto for ~$30 each

 

What would you go for? New bumper cover or whole one from JY.

 

A new one from Rock Auto. Saves the time of you having to pull 2 bumpers (theirs and yours), and the cost isn't that much of a difference for a new unmolested bumper.

usually the super cheap bumper covers don't really fit well and the materials are usually thinner.

 

I have an aftermarket front bumper cover, if it weren't for the OEM quality paint job I'd still be rocking a nose mask to cover up the bumper I had before.

I didn't have much to gripe on it about until one day I hit a curb and part of it broke off as if it were made of clay. Luckily it's down low, so it's not very noticeable. Once I get a deal on a front lip, it'll cover it right up.
