Nav System + bluetooth + iPhone 4S Siri
Nav System + bluetooth + iPhone 4S Siri
Hi All,
I've searched on this already but there's wasn't a thread specifically on this topic. I have a 2012 Premium/Tech package (w/Nav) and an iPhone 4S (2010 and 2011 are probably similar). I'd have to imagine I'm not the only one with a 4S and a maxima....
Anyhow, one thing that's frustrating to me is that, if you plug your 4S into the USB port, you cannot use Siri, even when pressing the Home button on the iPhone. Siri seems to work from the phone's point of view but it does not play over the car speakers and the car mic doesn't work.
You can use Siri if you connect via Bluetooth Audo, assuming USB is disconnected and/or you're just using a plain old +12V charger. But I've found that Bluetooth Audio is less reliable (occasionally skips), and you don't get the playlists, etc displayed on the main touch screen.
Anyone found a way to have your iPhone 4S's music accessed via USB, AND be able to use Siri? Right now I'm forgoing the USB connection and just using Bluetooth Audio for music (using regular +12V charger), but I'm not happy with the Bluetooth Audio reliability.
What's interesting is that the phone controls work fine with USB music connected, just not Siri.

This is not a "Nissan" issue... This is an issue with the iPhone.
Directly from the Apple website:
- If you are using iPhone 4S with an audio device that connects using the 30-pin Dock Connector, Siri will not route through that device. You will need to continue to use your iPhone 4S, wired headset, or Bluetooth headset to interact with Siri.

Thanks, EkimNaheem. I wonder if Apple plans to fix this (maybe in the upcoming iOS 5.1?) or whether there's a hardware-related reason that this doesn't work. Since the Bluetooth phone stuff still works fine with USB connected, I tend to think it's an issue Apple can fix.
It also would be awesome if there was a way to start Siri without hitting the Home button on the phone itself...i.e. via the nissan voice control menus. That sounds like something Nissan would have to fix....
