OIL?

I ususally use castrol gtx 10w.. But this time this shop I went to put it petro 5 20. Car is 97 with like 279kms.. Does this make any difference. And can I switch back to gtx 10w later with no repcussions. Or. Any now? And now I'm using nissan oil filter I just didn't feel like driving far to my normal mechanic in snow storm

it wont make a difference and you can go back to 10w. i'm trying to remember what my brother told me about the difference between 5w & 10w. IIRC 5w should be use during winter (seeing that youre in canada) and the 10w during the summer. but you can go back to 10w on your next oil change with no problem

Up there in that cold climate, I'd use nothing but 5w30.

The differences in oil viscosity numbers are fairly minimal when you look at them so no that change wont effect the engine or its performance that much. Our engines have a recommended oil viscosity of 52-30 but you can also use 10w-30 if you live in a warmer climate. I've posted this link before on threads about oil and Ill post it again because there is so much confusion and misinformation out there and the record needs to be set straight. Read through this http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/ and it will answer all of your questions and you might just learn something too

the recommended oil for the A32 Maxima is 5w30, but if you live in a warm climate, like I do in Arizona, you can use 10w30. I still use 5w30 and you definitely should use 5w30 if you live in a cold place, like New York. You can get away with 10w30 in the summer, but at least use 5w30 in the winter when its colder. And if it makes a difference, I recommend Royal Purple Synthetic. Only use the best in the world.

hmm its def cold most of the year here any of you who live in cold+warm climates actually change your oil type for winter vs summer or do you find just a single type and stick with it all year? if so, which. for a high mileage 4th gen max.

should i start going with a 5w30/10w30 instead anyway from now on?

I personally just stick with 5w-30 year round, don't see much point in changing cold weights with where I live.

That's the easy, and fun part!

Go somewhere that sells oil with a friend, have your friend blind fold you and spin you around a few times. Then have your friend direct you to the oil on the shelves. Grab a quart of oil. That's how you choose. Just make sure it's the correct weight or you have to start all over again. You can make it even more fun by doing a shot every time you grab the wrong weight oil, too. The possibilities are endless!

Here: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

Spend a few hours reading on that site. You won't bother asking silly "what kind of oil should..." questions anymore.
