Constant = constantly 12v power constantly all the time (department of redundancy department)

Switched (or Accessory) = key switched to the ACC position (one click....the one right before the start position. You know the one where all the lights and stuff lights up in the car)

The ashtray light is not constant. It is wired to the illumination along with the rest of the lights that come on when you turn the lights on (to illuminate the dash when its dark....so you know where to dump your butt from the cigarette....hence why its got a light attached to the lights).

Get your constant from the wire at the back of the radio. thats the most professional place to pull this from if your trying to wire something up in that area of the car.

yeppers

The little light that illuminates the ashtray is triggered by the ACC, same with the interior illumination (and glove-box light too)

what are you trying to do?

sometimes cigarette lighter is occupied by a passenger. i was checking if the ash tray is a good option to expand for more ports for like a phone or two.

I would not want this big, brick-looking thing cluttering up my interior. Looks like a nightmare lol. UNLESS you hard wired it under the center console and had the actual BOX part of it inside the center console...

What are you hooking up that needs a constant 12v? If you are hardwiring one of these power adapter outlet things you will need to find an ACCessory hook up......so when you turn on ignition---device that is hardwired turns on.
