So last year I sold my 1996 nissan maxima to my neighbor. I bought a used 2008 alitma and love it. However I want something to do so I'm thinking I should buy back my old car and fix it up. I already know what is wrong with it and most of the damage is cosmetic. It has 170k miles on it. I would have to fix some rust damage, repaint it, and gut most of the interior. I'm going to use OEM factory parts and scavenge from junkyards for interior trim? Is this a good idea? I'm going to buy my car back for around $500 and probably spend $1000 to $1500 on it. Is this do able? Feedback would be greatly appreciated Thanks!!!

As long as you don't have to borrow money to do it then I say, why not?

People spend more than that on a crazy nite of strippers and cocaine.

The real question is, is it worth it to you? Our opinions on it doesn't matter. It's your money. Do with it as you wish.

Okay so I've got a more precise plan of action for this restoration.
I'm thinking that I fix the rust spots myself and paint them with factory paint.
Replace floor liner with new factory carpeting
Replace headliner with factory head liner
Shampoo the seats
I need to get a new gas cap, not the plastic part but the actual piece of metal
I really need to clean up the engine bay and get a new radiator
