I'm pretty new to the whole aftermarket scene and so I had a couple questions regarding a new suspension. I spent some time searching through the forums but couldn't find a similar thread. I have an 02 I35 and I wanted to put on a stiffer suspension but after looking through some websites I couldn't find too many parts available for this particular car. Based on the available parts and pricing, I wanted to go with the Eiback Pro-kit from Tirerack with the Koni yellow sport springs. I really do not mind a stiffer ride so long as it's not unbearable. Is this a good setup or are there better options? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks.

 

What is your budget...Coilovers is the way to go....

 

If you're looking at suspension then your 02 i35 uses the same parts as the 5th gen maxima(2000-2003)

I had megan lowering springs paired with tokico blues, and I was pretty satisfied with the drop and how they rode.
If your budget allows you should consider getting coilovers(also the same as 00-03 maxima).

 

Get black KSport's off eBay and install them yourself.

 

^what he said. I would do that too. Get coilovers. Wish I had them, but my H&R will suffice.

 

After doing some more research I've narrowed my choices to the Eibach Pro-kit or H&R Sport as far as springs go, and the Koni Yellows or Tokico Illuminas as far as struts go. So long as the ride is not unbearable, what is the best shock/strut combination performance-wise?

 

For straight performance? Eibach's on Koni's.

 

im running the Eibachs with Tokico Illuminas and i have to say that the ability to adjust the stiffness of the shock/struts is amazing. They are 5-way adjustable and i can tell you that i have gone through all 5 settings trying to find the one i like the most. at first i had them on 3 and progressed to the 5. then i decided it was too stiff so i lowered it to 1 but that felt too sloppy and i settled on 2. changing the stiffness is very easy. all you need is a pocket flat head screwdriver. bought 1 at lows for like $2 or $3.

 

I had Eibach + Tokico Illuminas, supposedly the best strut and spring setup. Now i'm on BC Racing coilovers. I would never go back. Height adjustment, stiffness adjustment and the ride is way more solid and comfortable than before.

 

I just can't justify the price of coilovers for my needs but I appreciate the input. Canas702, are the Illuminas adjustable on all 4 ends even while they're on the car? From what I understand only the front Koni's are adjustable on car whereas the rears must be taken off. That is a big factor me as I'd like the adjustability. How easy are the back ones to adjust? And I've noticed some people make the back stiffer than the front; is that to compensate for understeer?

For those $250 you get adjustable ride height, stiffness and a world of difference in ride quality...

 

sorry ben away for a while. but yes you can adjust the stiffness on all 4 while on the car. ive done it many a-times. you'll need a flat head pocket screwdriver to adjust them. and mcsteve i agree with you about the coil-overs mainly because you can adjust the ride height. sweet ride mcsteve.

 

I personally would recommend you to save your money and get some coils. I have BC racing and my car rides GREAT!!! I can adjust the height and ride. If you plan on keeping the car for a while I would invest in coils. If not just get a spring and strut setup.

 

Sorry for getting back to you guys so late but I have been extremely swamped with school. I ended up going with the Eibachs and Konis after doing some more research and driving in a friend's car but I really do appreciate everyone's input. My question now is what's the best stiffness setting for the front and rear for the Konis? I want the best performance (least understeer) as long as the ride isn't absolutely terrible as I live in a location with some poor roads. I'm also going to be putting in a RSB in a few months in case that makes a difference. Thanks again!
