Time for some New Tires and Wheels :D
Time for some New Tires and Wheels :D
Evening all, With summer rolling around soon enough, I have decided to upgrade from my factory 17" to some 18"s. (2000 Maxima SE) And i've been looking at wheels and tires and reading various reviews for almost a month now, and while a few combos have looked good, I'm just stuck on what to buy. the size i'm most likely going to get is 245/40/18. Tire wise, i want something that balances performance and tread life a summer tire obviously, and something with a speed rating higher than "R" (don't we all :P). My budget for wheels is about $800, and tires about $800. I'm located in Vancouver. For rims, NOTHING CHROME! Thanks all!

Biggest I would go for tire width is 235, and im sure others will back me on this. 245 is a bit much. You also might not like the 18in, it might look too big. Im a fan of 17in rims personally
It's a matter of taste man, all I can suggest for the rim is that you do your own search to find the rims that YOU like... After all you will be driving the car, not t-behr, so not sure his opinion will matter (not to be mean). There are plenty of pics/threads on this forum about rims. Find the one you like, put them babies on, take pics and come back to show them to to us.

I'm just rolling graphite painted G35c wheels with 255/35/18's all around. They are not something you will see on display, but they are a common wheel with a twist. Plus they are classy as fawk!

I'm also a fan of G35c's but I'm biased because I just installed a set. You cant go wrong with Nissan/Infinity OEM wheels for a nice clean look. 370 wheels look AWESOME if you'd go 19 but I think so sacrafice a bit in ride quality. The 350Z Anniversary wheels (5 Spoke) also look real nice. If I get tired of the G35s, that's the direction I'll go.
245/40/18 is the perfect tire size IMO, assuming you have the proper rim width. It is closest to stock diameter and it rides really well for 18s, not to mention, it offers a good amount of rim protection vs 235s.
As for what design, it's really up to your tastes and preferences. Look through Members Rides as well as: http://forums.maxima.org/6887006-post6.html
There's also a tool on Tirerack that allows you to preview rims in different sizes and designs on your car, down to the color.

And yeah, T-behr can go F*** off. If they're nice wheels i'm going to damn well buy them. I don't care were they are "displayed" so, these are 2 i'm considering

I'm not loaded T-behr. They're pretty good looking rims, and i have NEVER seen a set in Vancouver before. Perhaps in the USA they are more prominent... But in Canada, Not so much. Once again, instead of just saying "no" why don't you make some suggestions instead?
My point being, instead of dissing what **I** like suggest what **YOU** like. Don't bother anymore. And slipped your mind i'm in Canada? Did you even read my first post? Or just look at all the purty pictures?
If you prefer to listen to Clashez, the clown of the .Org, whom everyone laughs at on a regular basis, then go right ahead.
In fact, you two should perhaps take it to PM, so that you can talk about installing ugly cheap rims, ricer stickers, ridiculous wink mirrors, twin loop merrell bent exhausts, and now, PLAID interior trim.
Sounds like you two would get along just fine.
Do what you want, but don't expect anyone with a sense of taste on here to tell you that either of those cheap looking rims look good (the actual price is not known to me, but they LOOK SUPER CHEAP).
You want opinions? Do a 360* turn REALLY FAST with your attitude in this thread, and toward the forums members. You might then, get somewhere on here.
There's a lot of threads with various tires in the members ride section, as Puppetmaster was so sweet as to direct you to.
If you want a cheap good looking wheel, you've already received proper advice to explore some of the very good looking Nissan OEM rims from other models. Nissan has some sweet factory rims, take advantage. You can be unique and still ride on cheap but QUALITY wheels that will look great.
Or, you can buy garbage hardly finished offshore dime a dozen junk like what you posted. Either way will work if at the end of it, you're happy.
With a $800 budget and a want for 18" rims, this is what I'd be on the hunt for, the 2003-2006 G35 sedan Rays:

the bonus is those rims are light, quite unlike the type of rim you posted earlier, which likely weigh around 24-28 lbs each. Anchors away.

Ouch. You had to slap me in the face didn't you Tuner? If i choose to listen? How would i know who to listen to seeing as i'm new here? If clashez is the idiot and tbehr is the smart one, fair enough. I'm sorry t-Behr. All good? And if the rims you think would look cheap, that's exactly why i asked here! So i wouldn't waste money on things.
You shouldn't have to be told whom to listen to, Daredevil, you should simply take the advice you're given, both good and bad, and evaluate it. Then make up your own mind about people on here, and their advice/recommendations.
Hope you're on the right track, just remember, the .ORG is here to help you, not do the work for you. And pretty much every member on here will bend over backwards for anyone, if they take the time to properly search a subject, come up with pros/cons, questions, and organize all this into a well formatted and spellchecked post. While this isn't always acheivable, such a OP will always be greeted with praise and assistance.
this should be obvious considering that even though your posts have been pretty crappy, you've STILL been helped, and STILL getting good advice from people. But the .org is a fickle thing, and if this attitude repeats itself, prepare your anus
And in your responses, stay away from bashing or attacking anyone. It will get you nowhere positive.

While you make some good points, I feel my OP was adequate. I stated that I was pretty much lost on what options I had, I said what I was looking for, my budget, my location wheel size etc. I though a pretty well layer out thread. Yeah I probably snapped back at T-Behr and I shouldn't, and for that i aplogized but everyone has bad days and i'm sure that's understandable.

They're alot of cool people here, and some that are just your typical trolls. You'll learn who they are fairly quickly.
Can we all sing cumbaya now?
I think that of the 2 you posted, the 2nd ones are better. But tuner has good advice above re: budget rims. For 800 you can get a good set of OEM rims that are not cheap quality...and great style!

Just make sure you proof read what you type before you press the enter key from now on, and you'll make friends here if you're willing to accept everyone's opinions for what they are and not get butthurt.

I think i'll stick to 245.
Coming from the bone stock Maxima guy.
Will do, However to be honest there's a fair bit of rim rash from the previous owner.
And tire wise, that's where i'm mostly stuck. I don't know much other than i want a tire with a speed rating better than R and some good hooking tires.
