Victim of Small Hit and Run, what to do

What up guys looking for a little advice my small incident here. I live on a college campus, and on Thursday morning, I hear my alarm going off, went outside to find that someone scuffed my car. Before hand, my bumpers been cracked and was held up by zip ties for the past few weeks, waiting on my new one to get painted and put on, so disregard any damages like that. It was just some scuffing. So I called my campus' public safety and filed a report, and they got back to me today telling me they found who hit my car and such and if I'm going to file a insurance claim. So here's my question, do I or do I not, I don't want my insurance going up for something that could probably mostly be buffed out.

Here's a small snap shot. Any help is appreciated

If the campus police got the identity of the car that hit you and proof then call the other folks insurance and report it....Make sure you tell them the Campus Police gave you the info and have the proof that their insured hit your car.......

Wont bother your rates at all.

My good friend is an insurance agent so I know a fair amount about insurance. Is your car modded? If so and you didnt tell your insurance and you make this claim, they could drop you for failure to report the mods. Just a warning before you proceed. I would tell them because I dont believe that your rates will go up THAT much. THen again if you are already in the process of replacing the damaged area from previous accidents then maybe you should not worry about it. THey actually found who did it? WOW how?

Unless whoever hit you doesn't have insurance. Then it goes under your own uninsured motorist part of your policy...

by law if they know who hit your car they must tell you if they give you slack about it call police tell them they have it on tape or whatever and will not release the info report to your insurance company the exact situation that its on tape or has whitnesses and they refuse to tell you for whatever reason.

Hit and run is a hit and run. If you know who did it, call the police file a report. Give the officer the information of the driver that hit your car. They'll find the person and make them fess up to the damages with their insurance information. If the other driver doesn't have insurance then you could always sue them and take them to small claims. Either way, someone pays for the damages besides you if you know who did it. Also the driver will probably be cited for leaving the scene of an accident.

My car was hit n ran last winter but unfortunately I never got any information of the driver except what he drives and looks like. So I had to pay for the damages and move on.

The scuffs don't look that bad, so I'm sure the responsible party would not want their insurance rates going up for something like that - especially as a hit and run. So here's a suggestion:

Contact the responsible party and tell them you intend to file an insurance claim, but if they want to handle it privately, you would be willing to accept X amount of dollars and get it fixed yourself. also kindly inform them that such amount might be about the same or less than any deductible they would be responsible for.

I recently went through this when I was rear-ended. I told the guy he could pay me $400 or let his insurance handle it. He got a couple of quotes which were more than twice that, so he gladly paid me. With those $400, I got it repaired along with a few other things that needed paint.

Bro I def think public safety is almost trying to protect the guilty party. Due to them saying they know who hit your car but not telling you who did it doesn't make much sense. Then they ask if you filed it with your insurance company is just silly. I'd make sure you find out the guilty party's name/insurance/etc then go straight to their insurance.

Offering to settle it privately is a nice thing to do but they hit and run, therefore they deserve for their rates to go up.
This would probably take care of that bumper and quarter panel though. lul.

Just on the topic of being hit...if somebody rear-ends you..what do you do immediately? Come out with your phone on video? Tape everything that happens after?
Do you call the cops? Do you ask the guy to pay for the damages? How do you know he will.......

Just got an email from the person, this is what is says

Hello,
So apparently I dinged your car and now theres a student conduct hearing about this miniscule incident. I just wanted to ask did you file the claim or did the school do it themselves. I literally have no damage to my car meaning there shouldn't be any damage to your car besides the already cracked side bumper that is zip tied to the rest of the car. I'm sure you've been in many bumper scratch incidents considering your from NYC where 90% of the cars have scratches on the bumper. So like I said I'm just wondering who filed the complaint.

Thank you
Dude sounds like he's trying to say nothing happened, but there is damage on my rear quarter. I wouldn't care about the rear bumper because I have a new one waiting to go on. Also, in NYC, people usually tap the rear of your bumper, not your quarter panel.
