CD-player died, requesting MP3/iPod advice. USA Spec kit still the best option?

Went through search a bit and found a great writeup on the USA Spec PA15-NIS unit which seems like exactly what I need. Just a simple way to add my iPod with control into the stereo with wheel controls.

That thread is a few years old and for '00/'01 but the new model appears to work with my '02 single CD 5.5 Bose unit (so they say). But before I pull the trigger I was wondering if something better has come along.

Thanks!

Why not just get aftermarket deck with iPod controls? (I'm actually selling a double din in the audio section if you are interested )

Well I was just looking for something cheap and easy I could do myself since the rest of the radio works just fine. If it doesn't pan out I'll definitely look into a double din.

Yep, saw that and it fits my situation. I don't have the in-dash 6-disc which I understand does NOT work.

You have a 3.5 without the 6 disc bose?

You mean a 5.5? Yes, 2002 Maxima SE without the 6-disc. I just have a single CD on top in the factory head unit and there is a CD button and a CHG Track button which is what the USA Spec site seems to say should work.

Unless I'm missing something...

I agree that you should just go aftermarket.

For the $150 you'll spend on USA-Spec, another $50-$75 gets you a brand new deck which will make your current speakers sound BETTER. And it's only a matter of time before the deck starts to cut out random channels of sound.

That being said, the USA-Spec will work just fine, and is the best option. It uses the CD CHANGER input (not Track CHG), since that is technically an 'aux' input that's built into the radio, but not many people have the actual CD changer in the trunk.
