LCD out on original radio; what to do?
Hi,
I've recently purchased a beaut of a 1997 Maxima GLE with only 50K miles. Everything looks like new on it, except for the factory cassette radio. The LED display is completely out, making tuning into a specific station quite an ordeal.
Is it possible to just fix the LED display? Or is it integral to the radio itself. If I decide to replace the radio, is it something a novice could do, or does the dash/console need pulling.
Thanks.
p.s. - I'm not a novice on working with cars, I'm just not familiar with how Nissan does things.

Is it the Bose? Common problem. There is a fix for it, i think the link is in the Stickies. You have to take it apart and re-solder a particular resistor.
Did that on mine until the CD broke. Put an 05 Pathfinder 6 disc in mine.
on edit: the repair appears to only apply to 95/96. I thought it was all of them.

Thanks for the replies.
The radio is definitely *not* Bose. I think the markings on it say CH513 or something like that. I'm not all too worried about the radio, seeing as how good a shape everything else on the car is (tiny spot of rust on the passenger rear quarterpanel and a broken right side mirror cowling [but the auto mirror works fine]).

Just get an aftermarket stereo and replace it...much easier than trying to worry about fixing the lights in my opinion. PM Amerikaner83 if you want to fix the lights, I think he has done it with his.
Edit: Have you confirmed that it only has 50K on the car?? Thats pretty damn low and I am a little suspicious.

If you want the car to stay original, it'll be more desirable that way some day, fix your Bose or find a replacement from another car. A car that has a mostly stock look is always easier to sell later on down the road. Just make it haul ***. Everybody likes that. You know , a sleeper.
I know. I was kinda suspicious too. But the AutoCheck vehicle history report validated the OD reading. The car (for whatever it's worth) has a 62 AutoCheck Score and only 1 owner.
