Hi everyone, I've read a thread on this forum that talked about, how all 5th Gen Maximas, have an issue with the linkage in the VIAS system. My question is, what symptoms should I look for to determine if this problem has happened to my car?

 

Ideas anyone?

 

I can pretty much guarantee it is broken on your car. Go get it dynoed to know for sure w/o taking it apart.

 

Since I have no idea where the closest dyno shop is, it looks like, ill be tearing my car apart this weekend to see if the VIAS linkage is broken.

 

^^^make sure you have a set of grip pliers handy incase you strip those super soft screws that secure the vias to the upper intake. and since your taking it apart pick up a these ( http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...___#fragment-1 ) to replace the screws. they come 4 in a pack which is exactly how many you will need.

 

Before you waste time with those screws. Take the IM off, flip it over, turn the VIAS actuator by hand. You should be able to see the power rod through the runners turning if it's good.

 

So if I can see that rod spinning, than I know its fine and doesn't need to be JB Welded?

 

yes. Although, people usually still recommend that you jb weld it as a preventative measure. I have a IM sitting here with about 160k on it and the VIAS works just fine.

 

Okay, I'm gonna take it apart this Saturday, and glue the rod back into the cup, if its broken. How much are you looking to get for your IM?
