Tranny going or salvageable?

204K on the odometer and driving into the office this morning it apppears the tranny started to really slip. From a red light with foot planted it barely moved. Even when I tried to manually shift into first it barely moved. When i manually chose 2nd gear it was a bit better. Wouldnt go into reverse at first and then it suddenly SLAMMED into reverse and then first gear whether manually selected or in AUTO seemed almost normal.. What do you guys think?

Tranny going or salvageable? Want to keep for about another year. The rest of the car inside and outside looks almost mint and engine still strong.

Check the fluid condition make sure it's not all burnt up and level make sure it's full.

Fluid level could be low. If its good, better start looking either for a new tranny or a new car.

Fluid level is good and doesn't smell burnt. Think it is pretty amazing that the tranny just started to slip at over 200K. Either getting a rebuild since I am sure it is a matter of time before it goes or getting a new whip.

Time for a rebuild/overhaul. An automatic transmission only lasts so long, no matter how well you maintain it. There are hundreds of parts inside an automatic transmission. If you have ever seen one torn down to every nut, bolt, and screw you would know what I mean.

I'm nearing 173K on my car, but it's a 5 speed.
