strut mount possibly...tie rod, axle, lower ball joint. all possible culprits. have someone bounce your car and look at the knuckle. see if you can visually pinpoint the noise that way.

So much possibilities in that area. Perhaps a video of the sound.

I have a noise there right now but seems only when car is moving. Need to take off and do CV boots on my axles.

Does it sound like a higher pitched wine, consistent with wheel speed?
I chased a noise just as described, turned out to be the inner bearing dust shield where the cv end buts up against the bearing in the hub assy. The actual seal was dry and made this scratchy wine as the car slowed down under say 30mph. Drove me nuts for quite some time, only heard it after driving for a bit, like a 10 min cruise down the highway and the noise was present. I figured it out when the cv boot tore and I removed the drive shaft. Things were really dry where the seal rode on the back of the cv joint. All it took was a nice wad of grease when i reinstalled the axle and it's been silent for years.

If your CV joints are making noise, its too late for boots.

After I changed my front struts I could hear it. You might want to check the dust shield once more, even though you pushed it back already.

NOise in front end

Hey, did you fix this??

1995 Maxima SE
240K miles

I have 2 problems.. solved one still got the other.

1) There was a metallic 'clunk' when applying the brakes..of course, not all the time, but it was isolated to only when brakes were applied. I replaced the pins that mount the brake caliper and the noise went away.

2) There is a noise similar to when you run over the things on the side of the road (put there to wake you up). I have isolated it to when I apply the brakes , and turns or immediately after turns. Of course, it does not happen all the time.

Actions: Rotated tires, struts replaced, no ball joint problems, dust shields fine.

I figured if it is a bearing, it will be doing it all the time...confirmed tis with my mechanic.

I am stuck.. I think a caliper job might be in order.

SO, any answer to the original question?

Do you have ABS? I sounds like your ABS pump and solenoids are cycling. Are all your tires the same size?

Noise

I had a similar sound. The dealer took apart the axle and greased it. Seemed to work so far. I'll keep you posted. 2009 SV

I've got this weird noise that recently started near the front driver side wheel also. I don't have abs and it only makes it while car is in motion. I don't kno if it'd the brakes yet but I know they are pretty worn down and need to be changed, but it sounds like a choo choo train, but its not that loud. It has no affect on driving the car its just annoying.

I also have different tires n smaller than stock size. I can hear it also when I make a sharp left turn.
