My mehcnic tells me that an engine bearing went in my 1995 Maxima - he tells me that it's not worth repairing / that it's time for a car. Can anyone give me a sense for the cost of rebuilding the engine - would it be in the range of $2,500 - $5,000 ?? After having looked at new car prices, I'm not convinced that buying a new / used vehicle makes sense. The car has approx 230k on it. thx for your help !!

get a low mileage engine for under 700 like anywhere. drop it in yourself, piece of cake.

 

Yes rebuilding the engine will cost thousands. Don't bother however. Just get a used motor an install it.

 

I have a 95 SE and just ordered a VQ30 with a 90 day warranty and 77k miles for 625. My friend whos a mechanic is doing the install while I build him a website. Standard labor would be around 450 he tells me.
