Anyone successfully installed an O2 Simulator?

Alright, I removed my cat and have tried everything I can think of to try and get my CEL to turn off. I tried the spark plug anti fouler method, that didn't work. I tried just hanging the 02 sensor up and out of the way so it doesn't detect exhaust gases, that didn't work. I bought an O2 simulator, spliced it where the post cat 02 sensor was, and it worked for about 150 miles or so, and then the CEL came on again. Has anyone ever successfully removed their cat and spliced and 02 simulator and never had your check engine light come on after doing so? I'm pretty sure I spliced it correctly, maybe the O2 simulator I bought doesn't work. Does anyone know where I can get a legitimate 02 simulator that actually works? I searched all the old forums and used one of them to install my simulator, but I can't find my anwer there. Help will definitely be appreciated, thanks.

lol i know of a few local buddies with o2 sims... are you sure the code is related to the o2 sim and not what the o2's are reading?

The code that came up says that my post cat 02 sensor is malfunctioning. I checked the way I installed the 02 simulator with the instructions that came with it for my particular type of 02 sensor, and I had installed it correctly. Just for kicks I tried splicing it a few different ways and they all failed as well. The funny thing all those different ways failed instantly, but when I had it installed the proper way, it took 150 miles of driving for the CEL to come on stating that my 02 sensor was malfunctioning. Nissan made these cars too smart lol. I'm going to call the seller I bought this sensor from tomorrow and see they can help me solve my problem. They had good feedback so hopefully they are informative and can help me solve my problem.

I didn't fabricate it the exact way that most people do. I wasn't able get to a drill with a bit strong enough to drill a large hole in the antifouler, so I just plugged the antifouler with rtv gasket maker, screwed it into the hole where the 02 sensor would normally go, and hung the 02 sensor up and out of the way with a zip tie lol. Its pretty much the same concept isn't it? Or is there a reason for screwing the 02 sensor into the anitfouler that I am not familiar with?

you didn't do it properly; do it the "exact way that most people do" and i believe you'll have the desired result.

The 5th gen section has a few threads on this, if you remove the cat doesn't the test pipe replacement have an o2 bung, maybe I'm missing something. If it is not reading any of the exhaust it will throw a code.

Yeah just for kicks after I removed the cat one of the methods I tried was just resinserting the 02 sensor to see if it would set off a CEL, and about 50 miles of driving later, it did. So whats the difference between that and using a spark pug antifouler around the 02 sensor? I mean even though you have the antifouler around it some of the unfiltered exhaust should still be moving past the 02 sensor, causing a CEL to appear. Whats the trick here? What year is your maxima?

the deal behind the anti-fouler is that you use TWO antifoulers, a regular one attached to the rear O2 bung, a drilled one attahced to that, and the o2 sensor attached to THAT. The theory is that the antifoulers act as spacers, so less of the o2 sensor is in the exhaust stream, which tricks the o2 sensor into thinking it's getting "clean" post-cat exhaust. Which in turn keeps the CEL off.

And if you need an o2 sim that works.....keep your eyes peeled here in the classifieds
