I30 TPS Test

Hey all,
I have searched the forums but could not find an answer for my problem.

I have been testing the TPS on my 96 I30 with 244K miles. After engine warmup and throttle closed, meter reads 600 ohms and 3900 at WOT.

While opening the throttle, the resistance increases until about 2000 when my meter shows OL and then jumps to 2100 until 3900 ohms.

I tried it multiple times and it always shows OL at about 2000 ohms.

Is this normal for the TPS or is it broken? It has been changed before by the previous owner.

Thanks in advance
SMB

I might have found the answer in the 5th gen forums.

There should be no "breaks" in the resistance when testing the TPS.
Can anybody confirm that?

That statement is true. This condition is easier to detect when using an analog meter though. The digital VOM responds too rapidly and can disguise the break in the circuit.

Thanks for the info. I am getting a used TPS from a member here and will see what happens.
