2.5 or 3in exhaust

so im gonna have a custom exhaust done at a local shop. i do not want it to loud but still want a grumble, just no drone. the guy doing it is gonna put a turbo muffler which is not a straight through design like most so it wont be raspy. i have gutted cats and stock manifolds. he said 3in maybe to big and i may run into backpressure issues but i also read they people are making big gains with 3in piping. any advice guys?

3 inch>>>2.5 inch

The performance difference between the two is big enough to justify the 3 inch exhaust. The VQ35 will be fine on a 3", even in naturally aspirated form.

If it's too loud for you, you could consider putting a longer resonator on it

Unless he has a mandrel bender, you will pay for 3" but get 2.5". He better be good, some shops (locally anyway) cant seem to make even decent bends beyond 45 degrees due to the pipe folding in upon itself. Probably due to cheap pipe as well though. Just be careful and inspect everything!

he does not have a madrel bender but he does it in a way were it doesnt cause it to crimp. He showed me pipes that hes bent and they came out pretty good, he said he packs the pipes with sand and then bends them so that way they dont crimp, honestly it looks madrel bent when hes done. btw anyone have any sound clips of 3in piped maxi?

PM Cmax03 just to check before you jump but its just the catback. I didn't realize you were talking from the headers back. Yea thats a damn good price as long as its good stuff. Try to get him to make an equal length Y pipe and then that will be worth the money but thats getting into some tight bends and needing a mandrel

i have an aftermarket y pipe for a 2001 maxima, hes gonna custom fit it on my 5.5 gen from the precats and then make my catback. il pm cmax for a price but il prolly just have this guy do everything. there a pretty reputable shop, they do everything when it comes to exhaust system, even high end cars like porsches and maserati's and other cars. hopefully il get it done next week and post it up so u guys can see it.
