Transmission swap?

Well, it seems that I am going to have to get a engine swap done, and I figure that while I'm at it, I might try to hunt down a new(er) transmission as well.

I know that I can use pretty much any transverse mounted 3.5, from '02-'08, does the same hold true for transmissions? Could I use a 6th gen 4spd AT in my car? Has anyone done this? Or would I be better off just having my trans rebuilt (got a quote for $600). Thanks to anyone who can offer some advice!!!

I was thinking that there was a 4spd auto available in a 6th gen. Any insight on a complete rebuild of my present trans?

I recently had a transmission swap job done. I wouldnt recommend rebuild because most shops dont know how to rebuild a transmission properly, plus rebuild usually are much more expensive. I got a 64k trans for 450 and had it put in for 420.

if i were you i would search www.car-part.com for a used tranny with low miles. If you plan on swapping it yourself you'll save a good amount of cash if not then look for a reputable transmission shop near by.

If you don't mind me asking, what year was the trans?

I have a pretty good mechanic that will be doing the work, including rebuild if I go that route. He quoted me $600 for the rebuild. Still a bad idea to rebuild?

Early 04 6th gen SL's had the 4spd auto, its better to get a low mileage used Tranny as rebuilds of them most of the time sucks.
