throttle body cleaned and WSP cai installed
My dad and I just installed the warpspeed cai. It was a b*t@h to install! The tubes were made just perfectly so if you drill the hole a little off it'll be a pain in the *** to make everything fit. When we got everything together, the wire to the MAF was just perfect, actually it was a little stretched. We decided to cut it and extend it just to be on the safe side because any huge movement from the engine will rip it off. It took hours for the whole project. Oh yea, I cleaned out the butterfly in the throttle body and boy did it do away the rough idle. The car idles more consistently now and more smoothly. Since it's been raining here in NYC, I haven't quite tried out the CAi fully but I feel more pull on launch. It works well with the WSP y pipe. But I just have a few questions...
I can clearly hear the CAI's filter sucking in air inside as well as outside the car. It's pretty loud too, is it suppose to be like this?
I have a rectangular hole on the right side below the bumper where the stock fog lamp should be. A little to the right behind it is the air filter inside the fender. You can see the filter from the outside if you look at an angle thru the hole. Will this become a problem since water and other elements can get in when the car is moving?

the noise is supposed to be there.. aftermarket intakes are NOT quiet at all. my WSP CAI is the loudest intake I've used so far, but also has the best results.
As for the filter getting wet, that's just fine. I drove for almost 4 months (through several extremely heavy rains) with no fender liner on the inside of my wheel well. the filter was completely exposed, and had water splashing on it from the tire on the road. I didn't have a bit of problem with it, other than a little lost power when the filter was wet (clogging the airflow a bit).

Geez Matt!
I would have been flinching anytime I rode though a puddle. That filter must be trashed!

Anything more than a couple inches deep, I slowed to a crawl so I wouldn't splash directly on it.
filter's in decent shape. it was a little brown and had sand all over one side, but I've since removed, inspected, cleaned, and reinstalled it. It was in good shape when I checked it out.. no holes in the cotton or anything, so I stuck it back on.

The idle is kinda high when the car is in park.
1,000 rpm in P (park)
700 rpm in D (drive)
The rpm for drive is about right. But what about when it's at park? What can I do to adjust this or is there a problem lurking somewhere? The idle was usually around 800 rpm in park before the CAI was installed and the throttle body was cleaned. What gives?

Usually when using the new filter's that are oiled, what happens is some of the oil gets air born and deposits on the tungsten element in the MAFS. Its not a big deal and the idle should stabilize in a week or so.
I dont know if the vg has a similar idle air control valve as the ve. but if it does it would also be very beneficial to clean it as well. when I cleaned mine the idle rose at least 200rpm!.
I now clean the TB and IACV at least once a year.

Is yours a ve or vg? I want to clean my throttle body but am pretty sure I need new gaskets once i pull it apart.

VG throttle body usually doesn't require new gaskets when you take it apart to clean. mine simply popped off in one piece, and I could put everything back together without problem. they're only about $5 each anyway, so I'd order some just in case.
the upper manifold gasket is another story. I'd recommend removing it and cleaning the whole dang thing (there's a LOT of gunk in there), but that turns into a full day job.

Once I got it installed, there was something wrong internally with the alarm (doors wouldn't unlock. fried processor on the alarm), so I pulled the alarm out and sent it in for service. it took two months to get it back, and I just never felt like putting the liner back in until I was done with the alarm again.. after I got the alarm done, I was just too damn lazy to hunt down all the clips and screws to put it back together.. so I left it off until it started getting really wet and rainy this fall.
