General q's and a problem with heat.
Hello,
My friend has 90 Max, and he has no heat whatsoever. Well, really, sometimes he'll get a little hot air, but then it will all be cool air. His thermostat is about 2 years old, but this problem has recently presented itself. Any suggestions?
Also, what engine does he have? I have seen references to VQ and VE, but have no way to tell which is which.
Thanks,
Chris

All 89-91 Maxes have a VG30E (VG) engine.
VE are in 92-94 SE only, and VQ are in all 95 and newer models.
check the coolant level on the car and mskre sure there's enough coolant and there's no air in the system.
once you're sure it's full of coolant, there's a "bleeder valve" bolt right on top of the PCV valve on the intake manifold. remove that screw while the engine is running (and Cold- NOT HOT! : ) and let any air escape.
if that's not the problem, then there's a heater control valve mounted ont he firewall.. it determines how much coolant goes through the header core, and if that's bad, then it may not be opening to let hot water into the core.
