How long is the air bag light staying on after you turn on ignition in your car?

I finally finished assembling the entire dashboard... I reconnected everything, everything works fine so far. However, I am very wary of the air bag....
How long does the AIR BAG light illuminate after you actually start the car? When is it supposed to go off if the thing is working properly? (can't find my manual) Right now, mine stays ON for like 5-8 seconds after the ingnition turns on and everything else goes off, then it goes off as well.. I'm probably too paranoid, but it's better to be safe then sorry.

thanks

yea
it seemed like a bit long to me too..... because i never really noticed it staying on for that long before so I thought i did something.

But, I found my Owners Manual and here is what it says in there:

"After turning the ignition key to the ON position, the supplemental air bag light will illuminate. The supplemental air bag warning light will turn off after about 7 seconds if the system is operational.

If any of the following conditions occur, the supplemental air bag needs servicing and your vehicle must be taken to your nearest authorized NISSAN dealer.

- The supplemental air bag warning light does not come on and remain on for 7 seconds and then go off as described above.

- The supplemental air bag light flashes intermittently or remains on (after 7 seconds).

- The supplemental air bag light does not come on at all.

Unless checked and repaied, the Supplemental Restraint System may not function properly. "

I guess I don't have anything to worry about, it just never seemed to turn on for that long before....

It is strange after you change something how the littlest thing seems like it might be messed up. Ususally it is in our heads but if the light seems to stay on for more than 10 seconds or so

DUCK !

The airbag system is quite simple.. If it is messed up the light stays on forever.. If it is ok then it goes out.. Since you are saying it goes out then it is fine.

No problem.. I normally feel quite useless since my knowledge is only in interior, airbags, and the 5 speed conversion.

After I changed the gauges, the light flashed on/off even after the 7 seconds, reset the ECU several times and the same happens after a day or so. Oh well, I'll get it to the dealer one of thses days, in the mean while, I still have the trusty seatbelts. I never liked airbags anyway. Notice that racecar drivers don't have airbags, but they do have seatbelts.
