Leaking Battery Acid
So I noticed a couple of times that my 2009 Nissan Maxima SV, would not start a couple of times, had to wait a couple minutes then magically started, pretty fishy.
Then one day I go to the gym and get out and the car would not start, so I popped the hood and all looked ok at first glance, then I lifted the RED cover on my battery terminal and it was filled with the White acid discharge, I mean filled, so I cleaned as much as I could and I noticed that I could easily lift off the Battery connection with my hand. After cleaning the Round part of the metal piece that clasps around the battery terminal, 3/4 of the round metal contact part was eatin away, It was not getting enough contact to start the car.
Took my car to the dealership and they wanted to charge me a 40 dollar cleaning fee, which then I went off on the service guy and said "what the hell are you gonna clean, there is nothing to clean, it's all eaten away" then after showing him he gladly replaced the metal contect ring for free and off I went. I mean he probably didn't even inspect it!
Has this problem happened to anyone else here? My battery is still leaking, my new battery contact ring is all ready all white, lol
Planning on replacing the battery before winter time!

Yeah, a cracked battery will do that every time. Had to replace my positive connector twice, finally got the battery out of there on the second go round. It was a replacement battery already, less then 2 years old, I didn't think it was leaking. Couldn't tell until you took it out to inspect. The plastic nissan cover concealed all the damage. Sucka just got to hot and swelled up...all that hydrogen gas coming from the crack was more then the nominal venting...
It's too bad that we are now approaching the 5th model year of the 7tth generation maxima and Nissan continues to put this kind of garbage into the car. Does anybody know if the Infinity's get the same crap of a battery?
Don't get me wrong, I love my max. But these are the kinda things that will keep Nissan far below Toyota and Honda in the dependability dept.

Car batteries don't last forever, they are a reflection of your driving style, if the battery never gets fully charged it will die sooner, my 09 battery died at about 29k and 3 years, the 2 mile daily drive significantly lowered its life and the extreme heat spell that happened here in ATL is when it gave out
My 06 Maxima the battery lasted 3 years and 60k and I used the car on the job, started the car like 10-30 times a day, I can't really complain, I taxed the hell out of that battery daily

I had an Infiniti truck and I had the same problem.. I had the white powdery stuff around the positive terminal.. I cleaned it and was fine for a while. Then one time went to start it up .. Nothing.. So i went a wiggled the positive terminal and restarted and worked fine.. Wanna get an optima battery next.. Have heard great things about them.. Does anyone know the part number for our cars? Thx!

Camry's.
The 95's stock battery lasted EIGHT years before needing replacement.
The 2000 had a Toyota battery when I traded in for the max in 2010
and I would assume that it was probably the original (very low miles).
Enter my 2010 Max....14K and the battery is shot, and way too many OP's here with the same premature battery life issue. As much as some people here want to stick-up for Nissan, in this case it really doesn't work.
I agree with you STARR for car battery's in general.

Based on my experience, Nissan battery is garbage. get Sears DieHard Platinum and you will be happy. I read the yellowtops are not like they used to be since they started making them in mexico. With my new diehard battery I get faster and stronger starts and the bose audio has improved.
